I had the same problem with my key/ignition since new. I tried WD40 which made it worse. After struggling with it for months I decided to try graphite powder and vola it works perfectly now. I too ride and park in the rain with no ill effects.

+1 on the idle. As mentioned in other post chain tension makes a huge difference also.
