Out of Shoulder Surgery

Some of you may remember the accident I had in Sept 2008 in Big Bear Mountain while riding with my brother, Wavex, and CaliRider. In that accident I tore some ligaments in my shoulder that I've been trying to treat conservatively with no avail. I finally decided to just get it fixed and went in for surgery this morning. Everything went flawlessly and the surgeon thinks I will recovery very quickly, in time to ride in the Spring since it's raining right now anyway (you'd think I planned it this way, MWAHAHAHA).

Anyway, thanks for all the support you guys always give on here. I've made some really good friends over the years because of this place and I just wanted to tell you guys how grateful I am of you.

Thanks guys for all of the support. The timing of the surgery was rather intentional with the weather so I won't miss too much riding this year. Only thing that sucks is that I won't be able to snow ski this winter, maybe in the spring.:ban:

All you local boys are welcome to come on over to watch some races with me on my big screen since I can't go riding myself.

Recovery time is 4-6 weeks in a sling, another 4 weeks of PT, then self conducted PT for however long I need to get to full strength. Thankfully this is my area of specialty in medicine (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation), so I know how hard to push myself without hurting myself. Although they say doctors make the worst patients.

Surgery lasted 2 hrs, I'm all covered in bandages as it's only been 24 hrs since surgery, but it should be a 2-3 inch incision along the farther edge of my collar bone. I kindly asked the surgeon as a personal favor to not use staples for scarring purposes, and to use sub-cuticular sutors instead. Allows better healing & less scarring. Only reason most people use staples is that it takes less time without any change in morbidity or mortality.

Yeah John, thought I mentioned it last time I saw you guys that I was planning it for this Winter. I'm staying Yorba Linda at my parents' house for a few days to recover before going back home to Fontana if you feel like coming by to say hi.
