While reading this thread I realized that the start menu tab for it says "Another painted muff..." <-- not work safe man, not cool :shakehead:

Nice job, looks good. I was planning to black out all of my non powdercoated parts, radiator mounts, peg assemblies, etc. and yours look like they turned out well. How much of a contrast is there between the powder coated and your painted radiator mounts?

I like it. I was thinking of painting that piece too, but maybe another color.

I just got done painting my entire exhaust system black because I didn't like the discolored steel look. But haven't had a chance to drive it cause of the rain.

I used the VHT paint (primer, black, and clearcoat). I tried cureing it on the bike and it got a little wrinkling near the top cause I let it run too long at first.

Anyway, I'll post some pictures good or bad and let you all know and see how they look after two hours of highway commute.

That's exactly what I do. My camera (not an SLR) has a great autofocus so I depress the button halfway and wait for it to focus, then finish the shot.

There is a noticeable contrast between the powdercoated parts and the ones I painted. They are all black but the paint I used is very flat. But what I also noticed is that the rims, engine, and frame are already different looking enough that this didn't look totally out of place. To me it just looks like tastefully placed accents. At least I don't have to look at that faux stainless steel color. Yuk.

You guys who are looking to try this, might want to use the high temp paint and get the metal exhaust tips that stick through the plastic guard. I think it just looks a little "off" when the stainless sticks out through the matte black. JMHO...

I thought about it but like the steel pipe inside the black cover. To each his own I guess. Having said that the verdict is still out on the steel muffler through the gilles on the side. Did you paint that part of the muffler black too?

No, I left that part stainless. Might be neat to paint it a different color, but it might be hard finding a high temp paint in a good/matching color.

Well, I installed it myself but I didn't make it. It's easy and takes about 45 minutes (60 if you're anal like me about tidying the wires).

If you're looking to make one of your own, I think Sportrider posted a do-it yourself thread.

But if you want to purchase, mine is from FAZR6. You can buy from him on SBN or ebay.

Hey Wayland,

In general it's holding up rather well and I'm happy. I put a cover on it at work, so the paint has worn off on the ends. You can kind of see it here:



Also, I bungee a tailbag and the bungee cords have started to leave marks on the paint where they touch. You can see it by the "gills" here:



It's not wearing through the paint, but starting to leave a noticeable mark. Neither the marks nor the edge wearing are noticeable to anyone but me I'm sure, so I'd say that overall I'm very satisfied. I'll probably take the cover off and re-paint anyway because that's what I do, but the whole process is quick and easy.

It's super easy and fast, especially if you already have the cover off. If you like the look of black and can handle a can of spray paint, I would say do it.

Just make sure to clean the cover with detergent and then scuff really well with sandpaper before painting, so the paint will stick well.

You went out of your way to take the pictures last night of the usual wear & tear. I painted mine today and will post some pictures after I get it remounted.
