Yeah yeah i know i just posted something similar to this a couple of weeks ago... but anyways...

A friend of mine came across an 07' FZ6 with about 3k miles and minor low side damage similar to the pics i posted in the other thread... slight front fairing damage the back passenger er... hand grip i guess ill call it also has minor scrape-age....anyways the price is 2700 obo...considering going to look at it and maybe get pre approved for a loan for it...

I don't mind the cosmetic stuff, can always be fixed, i just don't want to pay too much for it... so what do you guys think ? Yay or Nay and if yay then how much should i be spending on it if 2700 isn't a reasonable price.

As always thanks ahead of time!!

I love dropped bikes = yes buy it

I hate financing toys = save your money and plunk cash, DO NOT FINANCE TOYS !

It seems like a reasonable price to me.

I agree with not financing toys. I can't say I haven't done it though, I financed half of my bike.

Seriously, don't get a loan for a $2500 bike, save for a few months and pay all of it at once. It may suck now to have to wait to buy a bike, but it is so much nicer to actually own the bike. That way if you wreck it or want to sell it, you don't have to settle with the bank. You either get a check for whatever it sold for/was valued at by the insurance company.

Besides those words of wisdom, if the damage is purely cosmetic and you can get him down a few hundred dollars I think its a pretty good deal considering the mileage. Go check it out before you try and get a loan or cash together. Make sure you look it over and make sure nothing is bent or needs fixing (besides cosmetics). Going with money makes it hard to say no, you see the bike and get all giddy about riding it through the twisties. If you don't take money you can leave and consider your options.

Just my 2 cents.

Not everyone makes the big bucks like you.

Some of us have mortgages and other bills and it would take more like a couple years to save $2,500 cash for a bike. Fortunately I bought my FZ6 before I had a mortgage and $4.00 gas sucking me dry every month. :D

O.P. He is right though...cut out entertainment for a few months and eat ham and cheese sandwiches at home instead of going out for dinner/lunch and I bet you will be surprised how much money that saves you in several months.

I wish LOL

Yep, don't worry, I have a mortgage too.

I don't have kids, maybe that's why I don't have a bike loan :D

Haha, I do have other expenses too my friend. Living in the DC area and paying $1900 for rent every month is not exactly a cash saver. When I said "a couple months" I simply meant save until you have the cash. My whole point was with a less than $5k loan I think the interest is going to jack the price of the bike up so much, it would in my eyes, be worth it to just save until I could afford it. Now I do have a car loan but we are talking more like $18k and that would take more than a couple months to save for. :D

The new $finance thread$ . . .

I borrowed a little more than 1/2 through a credit union. Rates were fair, but then I did a transfer to Zero Percent interest CC for 1.5 years. So the rate is very low. . . Ya, I pay my ex more than 1/2 my income - Can't wait tell that goes away!

$2700 seems a tad high as the only way to fix and not $loose$ is used parts. fleebay to the rescue. . .
Also make sure it wasn't totaled by the insurance Co. A reconstructed title will not sell well later if you wish to sell it yourself.

Interesting point, it did say it has a rebuilt title, will have to look into that.

Thank you all for the advice, and the only reason i was planning on getting a loan is because i have Zero credit right now and would like to start building it by getting a loan i know i can pay off quickly, I really have no expenses right now so saving money isn't an issue to pay it off :D

That's why I financed half of my bike (I was a moron that got new though), I paid off the loan in 6 months and wound up paying $32 in interest.
