Sunday - August 5th NJ/PA ride

I'm hoping to be able to go.. trying to move stuff around i have setup for that day... anyone coming from queens?

What are the chances that 2 out of the 3 exhaust kits I have built will be in the same place for the same ride? I hope you can come out for it Ed.

one of our favorite hookup places is at the bayside marina (CIP) or Ft Totten when we are headed up north... which is right there in your stomping grounds

I think for this ride though we head south to pickup the holland tunnel. no worries we will figure out a place to meet.

Trying to get a few people interested in going from our group. Cleared this day with my wife so that is a running head start!!

Me too.

Probably people will have to wait up for me. I can't corner aggressively on a sport bike. I am more of a cruiser guy.

Don't sweat it! I lead at casual pace.. maybe 10 over limit.. nothing crazy. We also regroup often. We'll go over hand signals before the ride and if the group ends up being pretty big we'll have to establish who's riding sweep so I'll know who to look for in my mirrors :D

If I can make it I will be coming from the Manhattan/Queens area and somewhere like Fort Totten would be ideal. My apt is in the city but my parents house is right off the Cross Island Parkway in Queens.

Brooklyn, NY here, also in unless something comes up or someone at home gets sick.

Def up for a meet since it seems there's several NYers around...

I am really gonna try to make this happen. Would love to finally get a chance to meet some of you guys.

So far no plans that weekend and just need to try and not get too sloshed that saturday night:BLAA:

I'm in. Been far too long since I've went out on a long ride.

@ticktock - where abouts are you in jersey city? my bike is usually stored at a buddy's place there in the paulus hook area. maybe we could ride to erci's together.

Erci, with a group this size, I can tell you from experience that it can be tough to keep everyone together even though you're running at a moderate pace. Turns, stop lights, traffic, etc can all split up the groups and make it easy to lose people.

Couple of thoughts, take them for the .02 that they're worth:

- Have a clearly identified "sweeper" or trail rider (one of the better riders) who can keep an eye on everyone and the leader can know that the group is all accounted for. The sweeper can also help with any off-road excursions or "discussions" with anyone causing or having problems.
- Stop and verify at each turn that all are together or at least accounted for
- Consider splitting into two groups, with a leader and a sweeper for each. Obviously, this then requires a route sheet to be made up and identified gas and lunch stops.
- Ask all to refrain from passing unless invited by the person ahead. It's not a race.
- Ask everyone to gas up and hit the bathroom BEFORE the start of the ride, otherwise a lot of time will be lost getting everyone moving and keeping all moving together. Can be very frustrating for all to have to stop every 10 minutes for someone.
- Relax and enjoy the ride. Erci leads at a very comfortable pace that all should be able to keep up with. Few of the rides that I'm on give me a chance to actually look around and really just enjoy the day.

I hope to see all there

Allan

Exactly what I had in mind, Allan! All excellent points. I'm hoping someone will be able to save the route (I will post it up before the ride) and will be able to lead 2nd group. We'll agree in advance on re-group points and we'll designate sweepers for each group.
