Stock advice for the complete novice

Sorry I haven't got a clue about the nasdaq or FTSE.
What I would like is an idiots guide to how it works.
Mikebren I think posted a thread on where to access the company codes from but I can't access it. So if you know where to find the company codes please post it up.

it's easy......buy low, sell high! many people are rich because of this (and some flat broke!) but lucky for you if you lose money just post more and you'll be ok!
