I am a noob (been 20 years since my last street bike)

I am older now and opted for the more upright position of the FZ6 and it's very comfortable......Although I seem to be suffering form hip cramps. Only put on a few miles since I got it. Will this go away? Will I get used to it? Am I just sitting wrong? Somebody hep me!!!

Start stretching out some before the ride. Stop and take breaks and stretch some more. It's just putting you into a position you're not used to. You can overcome this with some mild exercise and some good stretching.

:welcome: back!!!

I agree with this whole heartedly. If I'm feeling a little stiff before a ride, I'll do some basic stretches to loosen up the joints and muscles a bit. I find that I rarely cramp up when I do this.

Oh yeah... welcome to the forum. Although I waited 12-13 years before getting on a bike again, I found the FZ6 to be a great machine for both it's comfort and power. Congrats on the purchase.

Thanks. I was hoping it was just something simple like that. I will take that good and obvious advise. I am in fairly good shape, though this is a new position for my body. I will do the stretching and hopefully it will subside. Thanks to both of you.

Great forum here...It's got great info and nice people.

Oh! I forgot, remain hydrated. Hydrate before riding and break for more often. It's too easy to lose ground with hydration when out on a bike. Potassium (SP?) helps a lot too. Raw potato with the skin and bananas (eat the seed too!!!).

I got my first FZ6 after a 14 year break. I know where you're coming from. ;)

+1 to everything above,

I'll add that after your "vacation" from riding it will take your body a little while to adjust to it again. start out with short rides and progressively build up to longer rides, after a while you'll be clicking off the miles and your only limitations will be your fuel range.

My ex was an RN, and she told me cramps sometimes are the result of a Vitamin C deficiency. Load up on the orange juice! (my cramps are in my knees, not hips, but seem to be subsiding...)

Sometimes I get cramps on the outside of my hips. A good stretch is to cross one ankle over the other knee and bend over, like you're sitting in an invisible chair.

Sounds like I am not the only one who has suffered this. I will stretch, take my vitamins, eat my bananas, work out with my girls hoola-hoop and finally (most importantly) ride more. :D

Will report back on how my therapy works....

I suffered from horrible hip cramps when I first started riding my FZ6 last year, and still do from time to time, particularly in the mornings, but not as bad as before. It seems to be part of the deal as one gets a bit older and less flexible.
Exercises, lots of potassium help...I also find that electrolytic drinks like Gatoraide help as well to prevent cramping. :)
Hang in there...it will get better.

well i spend the day at work day dreaming about riding. While day dreaming I did some stretching periodically. Went out riding this evening with no cramps...woohoo it works:rockon: I guess I was more of a couch spud than I thought. Now onward.

Just a note / reminder:
On my ride tonight it was a beautiful sunny warm afternoon and evening. The leaves are starting to change color and the sun was golden. Perfect riding weather as it cooled to a perfect comfortable temperature.

I was in riding bliss until.....DEER! and ANOTHER DEER! Luckily I was able to see them and had time to adjust speed. Yes, it's that time of year so heads up fellow riders. I knew I shouldn't have been riding these particular roads at dusk.

Same as everyone else has said & w/the addition of suggesting the possibility of you looking into getting the bar risers that several have (including myself). It even helps put you a little more upright yet ; 1\" up & 1\" back; Mowtech Risers.
TwistedThrottle.com : Handlebar risers (BMW, Ducati, Gas-Gas, Honda, MZ, Yamaha) - pair, rise height of 20mm (0.8\"), 25mm (1\"), 30mm (1.2\"), or 50mm (2\") - by SW-MOTECH - LEH.00.039.102

Thank you for that. I was considering doing that but wanted to give the current set up a try first. I may try that option in the spring when I start longer trips.
