Question IT guru's

well I don't run any anti-virus crap, none of them actually
seem to work 100% and all gobble up resources and give
false positives....on my desktop I run XP, do not update it,
Firefox for the browser...I keep a ghost image of this install
on an external HDD...I can format-reinstall the system in 10
minutes if something gets nasty....on my notebook I run
ubuntu and I've never heard of it getting infected

Lighting got a friends computer so I gave him one of my old one with xp on it
And like you said I don't do anything extra to them, no updates or anything.
well he kept trying to get a virus program working and up dates and kept messing it up
Kept calling me up for help cause it died,I got it back and fixed it three times
The last time I told him to just use it and leave it alone.
I wish he could afford a new computer then when it gos haywire I could just use his back up disk or better yet teach him to use the back up disk:D

yeah, XP is pretty simple, I still prefer it to Vista or 7...
but it's only good for about a year max and then you
gotta blow the drive and do it over again....I keep all docs
and media on an external, the C drive has the OS and just
a few core apps, browser, office suite, itunes...it's pretty
easy to re-do it, easier than frigging around trying to remove
a virus that might not actually exist
