hello I've been doing some research and I'm trying to get a definite answer on what year Motors will fit in my little brothers 2008 FZ6. from what I have read it looks like the 2009 is identical to the 2008 can anyone confirm this? I told my little brother to stay away from Master link chains he didn't listen.... eitherthe clip broke or fell off The Chain Swing around and put a crack in the block above the sprocket and you can see the back side of one of the transmission bearing races. local speed shop says they can weld it up for $240 but he already has 35,000 miles and I have been kicking around the idea of just getting him a lower mileage motor and repairing this one when we have time.

basically I need to know what year Motors we can use and his 2008 and what if any electrical changes need to be made with those Motors?

thank you in advance
Flip-

2007 thru 2009 Engines are the same. (all black in color as well). All plug and play, NO mods...

I think there was some ECU, and other minor changes in the 04-06 (S1 models) BUT all 04-09 engines will fit...(Besides the different colors too)

Expensive boo boo... Your a good brother!

Great! that's what I needed to know, now my next question is a lot the motors I'm looking at on eBay say "09-14" am I correct in assuming those would work in my brothers 2008?

yeah expensive Boo Boo for sure lol

it's his first bike, he wanted an r1 but that wasn't going to happen. we paid $1,500 for it with 28,000 miles. that would be awesome if I can use a 09-14 motor they seem to be quite abundant and you can pick them up for around $700 or less shipped on eBay.

2009 is the latest year you can go.

Checking the parts fisch for the 2010, it is different physically, left side generator cover SPACER, and some other stuff...

PM member Scooter65, he was parting out some bikes.

Also, look in the for sale section on this forum.
You may find something there.

MAKE SURE, the new engine is not a 2010. IE, for instance, part #35, nor parts 26-33 are NOT on your bike and is the newer engine:

Very easy to see from the the outside as you search...

When you say 9-14, you mean FZ6R, our FZ6 stopped production in 2009 or so.
Both FZ6 and FZ6R are 600cc, but the power delivery is different, FZ6 is more powerful than 2009-2016 FZ6r..!

All true. Dont confuse the R with these. A different beast. These are basically detuned R6 engines and the crank, rods, piston, head all the core parts interchange with early R6 parts but nothing ports over to the FZ6R.

If you end up with S1 04 - 06, the oil pan would need swapped. Other than that, its a color change and tiny details like an improved nut for final drive sprocket retention.

Good luck!

2010 and up is a very different engine than the S1 and S2 engines...

okay cool, sounds like all these motors I'm looking at labeled "09-14 fz6" are probly fz6r? I did visually notice part 35 was different by comparing photos online.

okay so if they say it is FZ6 but I see the different part number 35 on the left side its fz6r correct?

Correct..

Look at your brothers engine, there's nothing even close resembling that thing (I don't know what its even for)..
