Spock, my main riding buddy, the Colombian guy, had a DL1000 and now has a 2005 DRZ400S that he paid $3,500 for. I paid $3,300 for my KTM and it came with a second set of excel supermoto wheels and a ton of spare parts. Point is, dual sports are relatively inexpensive...being light and tall, they make good commuting bikes as well.
However, maybe not as good as the 125cc. When I was in thailand I rode a 125 for a week straight and had no desire for anything bigger given the tight/slow traffic.
