Do you have a prefered cornering side???

I like turning left for two reasons; 1) If I fly off the edge of the road because I screwed up I'm slide out and off the road, not across the road into cars that wanna run my ass over. You can also see further ahead if there's a hill or trees lining the road. 2) Left turns are on the...

    clutch slip, tire spin, misfire?

I know it wasn't the ECU because I was in 2nd between 40 and 60 mph. I am due for a new chain. I should stop putting that off, get a new one, and then see it's gone away. The only reason this bothers me is because I had never felt that before, then all of a sudden it did it three times in a...

    clutch slip, tire spin, misfire?

Today I was cruising through town and went to get on the freeway. The onramps are short and uphill, which is a great place to really lay on the gas. I had it in 2nd and wound her up, but I felt some slipping or something. I went to the next exit, gassed it up the ramp again, and the same...

    Wheelie...

I've experimented in first out on some old abandoned roads and was never able to get the front tire off the ground. I have gotten the front off the ground during a hard acceleration on the shift from 1st to 2nd which is the same principle as slipping the clutch.

    Poll: missed shifts to 2nd?

It happens at lower speed. If you get the revs up higher the shift smooths out and it slips right in the way we like it. If you shift around 4K it's easy to miss 2nd and it clunks more. Shifting at 7 or 8K is much mo betta.

    what's your take??

There are plenty of other places to park. We all probably need the exercise anyway. On a related note, it's actually faster to just park a little farther away and walk. MSU News: Researcher advises: To save mall time, park and walk

Bike doesn't want to turn over

Do you notice any difference compared to not using one? I've never had a dead battery even after leaving it in the garage for a month.

    Do you drive differently?

I always get antsy in my car because I can't cut between cars and pass slow drivers like I can on the bike. It's irritating to be stuck in a cage.

    Rear shock setting

When you're looking at the spring from the side of the bike there is a position indicator that will tell you what setting it's on. From the manual: "Align the appropriate notch in the adjusting ring with the position indicator on the shock absorber."

    License or bike first?

In Cali the permit doesn't allow you to ride on highways, which probably isn't a problem if you go the limit or just ride on weekends, but as a commuter it was vital I could use the highway and I wasn't about to risk having my entire license yanked if I got caught.

I didn't know it went that fast

On a private farm road I've gotten my fizzer up to 154 indicated. I understand the California bikes are a little slower than the 49 state bikes.

For everyday garage stuff something like this will work. $35 online. http://priuschat.com/shop/images/torque.jpg

    Torque wrench question

You also have to consider the 20% rule. If you have a torque wrench that covers 20-100 in-lbs you're not supposed to use the bottom or top 20% of it's range. In this case a 20 to 100 in-lb wrench should only be used for torques between 40 and 80 in-lbs. If I need to torque something to 100...

    Got a second two-wheeler; human-powered!

I must have a thing for 2 wheels. I bought a road bike several years ago and fell in love with it. I bought my fizzer last year and fell in love with it. I bought another road bike this year and want to buy another motorbike this year as well. For fitness you can't beat a bike. Easy on the...

Anyone ride with steel toe boots?

I did for a little while. Most have no ankle support. I don't care whether my toes are attached if the rest of my foot gets chopped off.

How many people here are pilots?

Air Force crew chief on C-130s, got a school date to cross train into flight engineer, have my private license. I'm too lazy to finish my bachelor's by 28 but I'll be the guy who sits between the pilots and yells at them when they hit the wrong switch or overtorque an engine. I'v always...

    Latest Motorcycle Blitz

It's always been against the law. This kind of stuff goes in waves. They'll try to clear out all the illegal pipes, then they'll move on to something else, and in 5 years they'll come back to it. Plus it's an easy way to get money flowing for the struggling local governments.

Paranoia over edge traps on freeway

If I'm worried about a change in the road surface I move to the far side of the lane then cut over abruptly to maximize the angle I hit it at. I never just kinda meander or float over those cracks or rises/drops. There are some spots on 680 up around Walnut Creek where the carpool lane is a...

Are bike cops our friends or enemies???

I've seen quite a few motorcycle CHP in the bay area and it always seems like they turn a blind eye to motorcycles unless you're weaving about like a drunkard. I was zapped by moto cop doing about 20 over the limit and he didn't seem to care. Yesterday I was riding around and there was a...
