Wow, that is really... REALLY scary. I'm going to have to show my daughter that pic, trying to get her to exercise is like trying to push a square peg into a round hole. She is seeing a doctor and doing something about her weight now, but this pic might help a bit.

I'm about 6'2" - 91 Kgs, don't really eat the best and yes, I smoke (12-15 rollies a day).
I'm not the most active person in the world either..lol, although I do walk about 10 Kms every day during work.
I'm pretty sure they check my Cholesterol each time I get my blood tested for my medical condition (hypokalaemia), he takes heaps of blood each time and says he "does the lot", and he's never mentioned anything wrong.

Thanks for posting Neil, might be a real eye-opener for people and kick-start a healthy change of life-style.

Hi Dave,
Do they ask you to fast for 12 hours before the blood test?

Next time you have them done, fast over night and ask them to check your Cholesterol.

Well the human body is like a faithful old mutt, you can abuse it, ignore it, feed it anything and it will always come back for more. All it wants is to be shown a bit of love and taken care off.
With this patient being young there is a good chance that with diet modification, medication, and quitting the fags, that they should end up pretty healthy.

They haven't been smoking long enough for their arteries to become hard. It's this hardening that allows plaque to form into Thrombus. The Thrombus may one day float off and cause you to have a stroke or a heart attack.

it seriously is amazing at least to me, about how many people i know that make up all these excuses even for not going for a simple walk.. i hear how much back and joints hurt all the time, but when you sit around all day and do nothing else, what did you think was going to happen.. I started doing short walks every other day and its amazing even how much that helps my back when taking rides on the bike.. +1 for getting in shape...

+1 I have a back injury, and the key to minimizing pain is finding the right balance between activity and rest. If I rest too much, the back pain comes flooding in, and takes some time to go away. For example, I work in manufacturing, and if I sit for more than an hour a day, my back just kills me. But if I stand, and move around just a little bit, my back is just fine. But if I over do it with the exercise(too much strain on the back), then I get the same painful result. It's all about finding a balance! And like you, a good ride does my back wonders. It's at the very least a good distraction from it. :D

My check came in last week when a guy from work who is a year older than me (me 47), him a heavy smoker, heavy guy, likely diabetic(???), under high stress at work died in his closet getting dressed for work one morning. His wife came in found his heart stopped.

I was working with him the night before and 12hours later DOA! I don't know all the details on his health but one can imagine, there were warning signs. With that, you can only ignore so many of them for so long before your number comes up.

If I follow the 9 lives routine, 3 times for auto accidents (1 my fault), excessive water intake (aka nearly drowned as a child), and being buried alive, well the last way i want to go is suffering from a stroke or some other potentially preventable issue. . .

Don't ignore the warning signs people. . .

Nelly, thanks for the reminder. . .
