That is a really good price. I am looking for an 08 FZ6 right now. I started by calling couple of dealers to find out OTD but they just mention the MSRP. And then they tell me the long list of usual other costs.
In your opinion, what is a good way to tell them that others have bought it for ~6400 and I want a similar deal.
If I remember correctly, you guys don't have any sales tax in NH, but here in VA we have a 5% tax. So, that would make the OTD for me to be ~6700.
Any suggestions how to initiate without sounding too rude? Or am I just overly paranoid about breaking the news to them?
First, never be afraid to let them know you are looking at all possible dealers. This puts them on the competitive edge. Here is what I sent to all of them up front and let them all start feeding me with replies. It works every time. Some will not respond, one was up-front and said they couldn't compete and 3 of them kept the deals coming... Hope this helps!

Hi {Dealer}. I'm looking for your absolute best price Out-The-Door for a 2008 FZ6 in Cobalt Blue. This e-mail is being sent to all dealers within "X" miles of my {Zip Code}.
I've been riding since 12 and fixing my own since 16 yrs old, thus you'll likely not see me outside of warranty work. My relationship with a dealer stems from the best prossible price OTD up front. I'll always come back to that dealer first on the next purchase.
Since I did say I was shopping... three dealers have already come in under $6500 out the door. The lowest thus far is $6397.00 out the door. This is a cash deal, no financing and no trade-in. Please let me know if you're able to compete with those guys, ok? I'm asking for your best price up front so I'm not wasting your time dickering.
I appreciate your time and efforts and look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

This netted me the $6418 OTD. The lower cost above was also the furthest dealer from me and would have cost me over $100.00 in gas to go get it. Good luck and I hope that helps! Remember, you only need to retain one of them as a friend!
