Bah!!!

Stupid Internet Nazi's! :Flip: This site has finally been blocked by the proxy server at work. I generally pop in some time in the morning and a bit more at lunch to see what's going on. Sometime between 6 a.m. this morning and noon, the site gets blocked as being a, get this, 'hobby' site. I can understand my company wanting to crack down on those who waste way too much time and bandwidth, but it seems that every possible interest is now being blocked in the fears that we, as worker bees, will escape the hum-drum that is our daily work. I can easily bypass the proxy, but I'm afraid that if I do, I will eventually hear the march of the Jackboots making their way to my office and no one will see or hear of me ever again.

At least I can still do whatever I want with my iPhone. :p

Wow. I wonder how much your company wastes policing the internet..... nice way to crush morale. If only they realized that it's not so much how long you work each day, but how hard/smart you work that really matters.

they get more for their $ for you, but spend way more policing it than you would waste by checking a forum. it is like working really hard to be lazy...

I hate to hear that man. So far with fingers crossed the site hasn't been blocked at my work. Our computers are monitored constantly but things like you tube and ebay are blocked. Well at least you have something extra to look forward to now when you get home.

The proxy at work blocked this site the day after I found it existed.

. I would doubt very much that they have blocked this site specifically - more of a block anything with forum in the name, block everything with webmail in the name etc. So you've probably been caught in a generic block.

Find someone in your IT Department who has a bike and ask if they'll unblock it and maybe you'll get lucky with it.

If you work have no published policy stating that you can't bypass the proxy server then bypassing it isn't an issue. However I would check to see whether such a policy exists first.

Try typing \\"free web proxy\\" into the Google search. You'll get a ton of choices to choose from. The first one happens to be www.hidemyass.com
:spank:

Let me know if it worked ;)

As wonderful an idea that is, I've already tried that. Even though Google displays the results, any of the links that are clicked are blocked by the proxy server because "proxy avoidance is filtered". LOL!!! One site that works though is US proxy.

They may not have a published policy, but it probably wouldn't be in my best interest to try to bypass it. I'm not in management, but I'm fairly near it. If I did try to bypass the proxy, and if I were caught, I'd be setting a "bad example". Like I mentioned, though, I can still use my iPhone. That's how I'm writing this now. :D

Very strange that at the same time as I was reading this post the forum got blocked for me too. Company policy...forums blocked blar blar blar. Now an hour later it lets me in again. Our company uses Websense

We have a Zero tolerance policy for internet. We went from being able to use it a little to none at all. I have a computer in my car with internet access but can use it to check my e-mail etc,:confused::(

Yep. That's what my company uses. I think it's an industry standard. Hopefully you won't get blocked again, and that the site stays available for you.

a lot of the proxy bypass sites don't display this site correctly, and none of the buttons work. at least from my work that is.

We have all anonymizers blocked. I guess this won't work either. :( We have social networking blocked too! Ok, I can manage without Facebook very well but come on! Social networking not allowed!?!??

Wow!! I can't believe that, in this supposedly enlightened day and age, companies actually waste resources on blocking sites and restricting internet access at work!? What kind of work are you guys in?

In my line of work (electronic engineer), it's unheard of! I need, and get, full access to the internet at all times. Anything less would cause me to up and leave for greener pastures in a heartbeat.

Hope y'all had a nice day at work (cuz you'll be reading this tonight when you get home, right?).

Cheers,
Dave

Nope. I'm sticking it to the 'man'. LOL! Since the site block, I've been getting my FZ6-Forum fix via my iPhone. Sure, even with 3G, it's a bit slow, but it works. Better than waiting all day.

:D
