Hi,

I don't know if anybody else thinks that FZ6-06 brakes are poor but for me they definitely are!

So I decided to upgrade them to 4 piston calipers. I have a choice from 07 S2 model and 08S2 with ABS.

The 08's (ABS) are in better condition will they fit my non ABS FZ6-06 excluding the fender brackets ?

Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure if your bike has the rotor in the wheel hub as shown here:

View attachment 30438

(BTW this is from a FZ6 manual)

or if the ABS brakes include the sensor also shown here? these are both necessary to make the ABS work correctly.

I also thought it was all run by a controller (circuit/chip) but don't quote me on that
(I remember reading an article in a magazine a while ago explaining that they use different software on different bikes, and that they don't all use the same braking pattern, so this can result in different ABS characteristics using the same brakes).

Sorry I don't know if you can directly fit the pistons from the ABS bike without attatching the rest of the ABS system

FZ6-07 regular caliper

FZ6-08 ABS caliper

These are the actual pictures of the two right calipers 07/08ABS- no difference I think!?

As far as I know the ABS system includes a pump two sensors and electronics in case of some kind of failure the system operates normally as a regular braking system. So there should not be a problem to use just the calipers.
Excluding the fender no other mods are required to fit the calipers right(just a simple swap) ?

In the manual it keeps saying in the case of a bike with the ABS system then what has to be done extra, but the pics seem to be the same, unfortunately I couldn't (quickly) find any reference to part numbers but it seems to be the same item.

hope it works for you, it would be great to see a "how to" when you're finished

Any resource for Fuel Tank Compatibility?

That's a tough one. I know parts of the tank are compatible (fuel cap & hardware, head mount, maybe the fuel pump). But info is a little scarce. Bits and pieces here & there. Check fz6 sub site at sportbikes.com. Also, if the parts numbers are nearly identical to R6, R1, or 600R part numbers, there's a good chance they'll fit.

stator/generator from an '03 R6 is NOT compatible with the FZ6. It's the right diameter, but the fitting is slightly different, and the bolt holes in the wrong place.

R6 part # 5SL-81410-00-00
FZ6 part # 5VX-81410-00-00

in related news, I have an R6 stator for sale ;)

Re: Unofficial FZ6 Compatibility Chart// S1 header to S2 Chassis?

Question - Will an S1 Header Fit an S2 bike?
Answer - YES, but not directly. Read on if you need to know more.

 • The S1 header will hit the S2 pan. You can swap pans to an S1 pan or file off the bump on the S2 pan. If you FILE, You MUST WELD! Weld it from the inside and file it off. ** SOLVED **
 • The S1 mid-pipe is SHORTER than the S2. Use an S1 Mid-pipe with an S1 header. ** SOLVED ** The tail section whether OEM muffler or after market cans will bolt on to the mid pipe.
 • If you run an after market Fuel Controller - No need to weld in O2 bung. If you want to run the OEM ECU O2 MAPS, weld in a 18X1.5MM bung. ** SOLVED ** You need a bung for Wide Band O2 sensors if Autotune or Z-AFM is to be used.
 • Header collector mount: Obtain and use S1 header mount. ** SOLVED **

In return, your bike will have better throttle response and FAR LESS Throttle Chop! Especially with an added F/C or C0 mod.

ORIGINAL POST IS BELOW HERE:
Has anyone physically bolted an 04-06 header to an 07-09 bike?
IIRC someone had issue placing an S2 oil sump onto an S1 bike and had to smash the header to make it fit. Obviously the exit into the mid-pipe is taller on the early S1 header but I'll just weld up another mid-pipe of the proper length if the header fits the engine under the oil pan.

If this is a "direct fit" that would be great, but I don't want to buy an early header if it hits the pan. I'll add the O2 bung and move the mounting bracket if that's the only issue...

Tks

skooter65 I may be shopping for a good used header. Hopefully one that has some shine left in it.....

S1 on top than an S2....

S1 vs S2 Mid-pipe: About 1.5" longer as the header is shorter on the S2 w/the Pre-Cats taking the space where the nice long radius could have been.

I cannot speak to whether anyone has or not but, I can as I have both an 05' and 07' in the basement at the moment. May take a week or so to find the timing but I will let you know!

Does the side panels, under the seat, from an 09 fit on an 05?

Possibly. The part numbers look a little different different though:

05 FZ6 - Side Cover 1 (Left side) - 5VX-21710-10-00

09 FZ6 - Side Cover 1 (Left side) - 5VX-21710-A0-P2

IIRC, Part numbers take the form of Model-Part-Revision-Color. The second part being the same "Part" segment is a good thing. Part segment numbers are usually changed if the part changes its form (angles or shape changes), fit (bolts/holes in different spots), or function (maybe the part becomes weight bearing, etc.). The "Revision" segment did change so there is something different about it.

Any info on gas tank caps for a 2006 fz6?

IIRC, 04-09 should be compatible, based on the fact that Ron Ayers calls for the same replacement part number (39P-24602-00-00, 04-05, 06-09) for all years. Are you looking to place something else on it? A quick check of the 03 R6, 05 R6, 06 R6 & 06 R6S, 05 R1 yields the exact same part. Seems to be a universal part (like their calipers & wheels).

I'm looking to do a quick release gas cap, and there are several different options. Wanted to confirm compatibility for it before making the purchase. Thanks ahead of time.
