Triumph Street Triple vs Yamaha FZ6

"I would get both", that was what I said, that is why I own, besides FZ6, honda magna, ninja 650R, and triumph thunderbird sport. I got as good as 55mpg from my fz6, and that is why I did not choose fz1. I use it for sport touring and I value high mpg bikes. my ninja gave me 62mpg driven conservatively. If you like to race your bike, then don't worry about mpg, get the fastest bike you can such as ducati 1098RS and the like.
 
My brother has an 08 Street Triple and i've ridden it and think its absolutely fantastic. Its so light! My FZ6 weighs 201kgs but his weighs 152kgs with his non-standard pipes. Which is for all intensive purposes 50kgs lighter which is a lot of weight. It makes such a difference. The Street Triple is so flickable, you can just flick it from corner to corner effortlessly. And then there's the noise...with his custom exhaust it growls and snarls at you and exceedingly loud. Its pretty addictive. Theres also the 'poser' factor which is fairly amusing. There is a stack of power down low and right the way through the rev range but the motor is so flexible you barely have to even change gear. and dont forget it goes like s**t off a shovel.

There are a few downsides though. The whistle that comes from the bike, the signature Triumph whistle does start to annoy when riding about in town, but hey that's Triumphs. The seat is mega hard and makes you slide forwards because it doesn't grip which does annoy me. The stand is quite difficult to get to and that's about it.

Its a totally different animal to the FZ6

201 Kg is the service weight, with fluids. I believe the dry weight of the FZ6n is 180 Kg and 185 kg for the ABS model.

I have no idea what the service weight of the Triumph is, but 167kgs is the dry weight.

No one is arguing that. Obviously I agreed since I owned one. The question is whether to take the opportunity to change or get the same.

Hey Tom, thanks for the feedback on your brother's bike. How has the reliability been so far? How many miles does he have on it? Which exhaust did he go with? If you could put me in touch with him, I'd really appreciate it.

Reliability has been good so far but he hasn't done many miles on it yet as he hasn't passed his test, so myself and my old man have been putting the miles on the bike to run the engine in.

As for the exhaust he got a custom made exhaust from a firm called Campbell Custom Exhausts in Orpington, Kent. They've used his bike as their demonstration bike and his at the moment is the only Street Triple in the world with that exhaust.

When I get my next commuter bike, it will be the FZ1. It feels great, has the riding position that I love about the FZ6, only it has much better suspension and a fun factor with power that the FZ6 can only dream about for only 40 pounds (or so) more weight!

I love my FZ6, I have never ridden a speed triple so I can't comment on it, but I did not vote as I would go for the FZ1!

My general rule is, go with what will make you happy and not regret what you bought. I bought my Busa because I knew I was just settling for anything else and I really wanted a Busa, so get what you REALLY want and you will not lust for another... until next week! ;)
 
I've already decided I would move on to a Triumph Street R or Speed from the FZ6 unless I find money to afford the Ducati Streetfighter...

The blue lights next to the speedo are the shift lights. More lights are added as you get to where you set where you want all the lights on. He set his quite low at the moment. If i'm right he has all the lights on at 5000RPM
 
I really like the Triumph, my uncle test rode one this summer and while I didnt ride it (rats), I liked the stance, the seat height and the general look. I really like the sound of the thing, too. I think they are real even in power, we rode a twisty road and we stayed pretty even. He did not buy it but I think he regrets it some. Have fun deciding what bike to ride! I like the Ninja too!

I wouldn't limit myself to just two bikes. And if I was looking to stay below 700cc and also with the standard sport bike I would consider this.

But if I was going more sporty I would get the YZF-R6

Now I wouldn't limit myself to a 600ish bike. At this time if I were to buy a new bike it would be a Bandit 1250 or an FZ1.

Iv'e actually ridden one of the earlier Kwaka's and they have amazing torque but just a little ugly IMHO.
