The "Off Topic" thread...

Well, it was BMW demo day today.

The F800GS lived up to the very high expectations I had for this bike since its release. Amazingly the only complaint I have is the heated grips, where 1st setting does sweet FA they may as well be off, the 2nd setting got hands too damn hot if the speed dropped below 60! The bike is amamzingly smooth to ride, the engine pulls brilliantly and has quite a nice sound to it, fantastic brakes & a 'lightswitch' for a gearshift action :thumbup:

The R1200GS Adventure, well, I do have a 'Clarkson' way to describe it, but its a little insensitive. All I can really say is that Ewan & Charlie did the right thing picking it to ride from the top of the British Isles to the bottom of Africa. This bike is huge. It has so much grunt. But for the sort of adventure/touring I got planned, its just too damn big. You really do feel just how much weight this bike has riding through the twisties.

Different in WA.

RE 250 lic for 12 months, then another practical. Then R class, no restrictions. It is a great feeling - no shadow or L plate :)

Good stuff....i never knew that Spook was not allowed to do more thasn 80km/h legally on his bike.... :eek:

Don't all L platers have a 80km/h limit?
In NSW its 80km/h on Ls
90km/h on Red Ps (1 Year)
100km/h on Green P's (2 Years)

They brought out the suprising figure that something like 30% of P platers have lost their license in the last year.
They didn't bother mentioning WHY. If you are on P's and are caught speeding (even 1km/h over) you lose your license. In fact despite on greens having 6 points you instant lose your license for most offences now.
(Keeping in mine 1-9km/h over the limit now is a fine and 1 point lost)
I have a feeling this also includes, having too many people in the car, and several other P plate only rules.

I think the best part is the passenger limit. They totally removed the need for anyone to be a designated driver when you can't take more than 1 passenger late at night.

If being hopelessly useless and always making terrible decisions was punishable by jail time (or better - execution) we could see some accountability in the state govt system.

He has a letter from the constabulary advising him that "if they were in position to do so" he would have been in trouble as we all know....he never stuck to the 80 limit. In most cases his 250 was never that far behind us on the FZ6s!

Not in Perth. We can do 100 km/h + if you're in a 110km/h or an open speed area.

Bloody dangerous not to be able to do more than 80km/h to overtake etc.

This was my point...for someone that was only allowed to do 80, he was doing ok!

Well this morning while riding to work in the rain I saw the latest in GSXR riding boots......... ( Some do wear them apparently ) Crocs :eek: Yes thats right , these stupid things :shakehead:

Well I guess they are enclosed footwear to a cetain extent & ligtweight so its a start but from today on they are now known as Gixxer Boots :D :thumbup:

Yup, catching on down here too. Saw a guy with his girlfriend on the back, T-Shirts and shorts wearing Croc's... And yes, it was a Gixxer...lol

Gixxer riders have a steal capped pair for work, and the normal pair for on the bike. The steal caps slow them down too much!

I had to head to the missus's yesterday, and couldn't fit my wet weather pants into the topbox after all my other stuff, so rather than risk it I just wore them over my draggins.
I greatly dislike leaving any of my gear behind these days! (It was uncomfortably warm when not moving)

Yep, Croc's, Reef Oil, and budgie smugglers....especially on the Gold Coast!!! 60 year old men in Budgies, with leather skin, and Croc's, is a very common, and quite disturbing feature of the Goldy!
