Test rode BMW-S1000rr today

I visited the local BMW shop here in Vegas today, and took this baby out for a spin.

They claim it's the most powerful Liter bike ever made, comes with a standard three year/36,000 mile warranty. Yeah, we're all use to the 1 year/12,000 from most manufacturer.

I was told about the clutchless shifter. As long as you're not lugging the engine, you just shift up without rolling off the throttle! It was smooth as butter, once I deciplined myself not to roll off the throttle when I shifted.

My luck, I noticed a trooper had pulled someone over on the freeway, but I still managed to get it up to 110mph without any effort. At 90 mph, the RPM was at 7000. You can see it starts to redline at 14,000.

The braking was incredible. I could stop on a dime. Either my FZ has horrible brakes or these brakes are just that good.

The only awkward feel I had was the turn signal. Had a tough time getting use to the very light switch. Half the time I used it I wasn't sure if I had activated it.

Yes, she was thirsty after my 45 minute assault.

My opinion, if anyone is thinking of purchasing a liter bike, no question about it, for the money, this is the best bang for your buck. MSP $14-$16,000 depending on the goodies. Plus, 3 year warranty.

that bike is HOT. i drive a bmw x5 and their warranty is great. just make sure you are always nice to your service advisor and he/she will take good care of you. 3 year warranty is great, although oil changes are expensive i bet.

I guess you can always do it yourself, but their oil changes or service is every 6000 miles. So depending how much you ride, most of you would probably only need to bring in the bike once a year.

Dare I ask.... how were the ergos?

Well, it is a sportbike. So it does have an aggressive riding position. I thought the positioning of the mirrors were a bit better than the R6, as I ride my roomates from time to time. It seem I didn't have too much trouble looking back at traffic thru the mirrors when I sat upright at a traffic stop.

you're lucky to had such chance of getting this baby for 45 minutes.
Locally here I can't even get a used FZ1 for 5 minutes test ride at most dealers!
I still try to understand hot that clutch works..
Thanks for sharing!

I drive a BMW too and everything except tyres is included in the 5 year/100,000km Motorplan. Is the 3 year just a warranty or is it a Motorplan too?

I'm sure changing your own oil in the warranty period will void it.

Awesome as the BMW is, there is still one very important (at least to me) category where my 6 year old FZ6 still blows it out of the water...symmetry! Seriously, I understand them wanting to stand out, but they could easily have made the headlights and fairings mirror each other and it would be much more attractive.

Although I agree, bmw is known for the asymmetrical looks, it is their "thing" all their bikes do it...

I know they're known for the asymmetrical headlights, but the K1300S doesn't have one, I don't see why the S1000 must. I saw a photoshop of it and it didn't look bad with two of the big headlights. The BMW people complained of it looking generic, but I would rather have something be generically good-looking than uniquely ugly.

id rather performance then looks. can you see the front of the bike when riding anyway?

Why not have both?

The stats on this bike are sick! But I agree with most people, it is ugly as hell! I don't know what I'd do if I had $14k to drop on a bike...unfortunately, I don't have that problem.

Now, how do I get to joy ride on this BMW? Next time I'm in Vegas, what do I have to do--just say that I want 45 mins on it? (or do I have to mention that "Vegas" sent me?). What do I have to do?
