Starting R6 fork mod in next few weeks

Just picked up undamaged forks, axle, and brake calipers with 3,500 miles on them for $175 shipped. He may or may not have the end bolt, if not only $3.00 to order. Still need to order/find/make the conversion parts needed.

I may need to pick some brains in the futrue but don't worry I have searched and found a lot of threads on the subject so I will only post if I am hoplessly lost.

In case anyone is interested I found the parts on an R6 forum.

I just ordered the McMaster-Carr washers and shims first thing this morning, I've had the forks for a while now. However I still really need a set of those fender adapters to re-mount my '08 fender.

i dunno how comfertable i would be using aluminum... the originals called for stainless steel and as i dont rememeber exactly why, i do remember that it was important to use it... those look great, but i just wonder how they would hold up on the spacers...

From Sharkbaits post on page 21 the other site "for clarification the Wheel spacers and Brake calilper spacers are made from 304 stainless steel. The fender tabs are 6061 t6 aluminum, anodized."

The fender spacers shouldn't matter. Only the fender is being supported. The other pieces are stainless.

correct.

Also, dako81's first picture shows the adapter to fit pre'07 fenders. You actually need front and rear adapters to fit the '07+ fenders. Sorry, but I don't plan on making any more.

Yes, the other forum has a GREAT thread for this mod, although it is getting a little lengthy, it is well worth the read for this mod.

I just placed orders for all the additional parts I need.

I ordered stainless steel Fren brake lines from PJ's Parts with red fittings and red sleeves. A+++ transaction so far.

I ordered EBC HH R6 front and FZ6 rear brake pads, speed bleeders, and brake fluid from kneedraggers.

I also will providing dako81 feedback on his 'prototype' machined pieces during the install. Also purchased the required shims/spaces from McMaster so I won't be without my bike just in case. I also picked up a 19mm hex attached to a socket with 1/2" drive for McMaster.

With shipping dates it looks like I will be attempting the mod on the 20th. I will be taking lots of pictures during the mod both for a write up and in case I run into any issues.

what does this mod do? changing te forks ? does it change the riding position by using clip ons instead of a handle bar?

it gives your bike adjustable forks.. which in turn give it a much smoother ride... the ridding position only changes if you go with clip ons, but you dont have to, you can stick with the handlebar... it's one of the best mods for the money :thumbup:

Unless of coarse you get ripped off and get forks with bad seals... :rant:

if your buying used forks, replace the seals... this way you dont have to replace them down the road...
