Long story short is I might ride my FJR down So Cal to ride in the Anza Borrego and Mt San Jacinto State parks in early Feb. Never been that far south so it's about time I check it out.

Thinking of base camp (hotel) in or near Palm Spgs. Rancho Mirage area but open to suggestions. Hope to have 2 days to ride this area.

What are the must ride roads?
What about weather?
Not so worried about cold or light rain, just snow.
If it rains, will snow be a problem in the higher passes?
Any areas to avoid?

Thanks, Doug

Here is a good loop for you if you plan on staying overnight in Palm Springs:
The Big San Diego Ride

Fuel and food is available in several places (Borrego, Julian, Pala and Hemet). Snow/ice might be on the South Grade of Palomar Rd. Cell service is spotty, and traffic will be practically non-existent.

If it's a weekend I might join you!

What also would be cool is if some or any of us could meet up with you for some of your ride down here. I'm in San Diego area and if you can give a date I'll try to hook up with you for some of your Borrego etc. touring.

Thanks guys, here's the deal. I am suppose to be down there Feb 12 &13 to ride with some FJR boys but with all the wet weather we have had up here I am getting behind at work. (I work outside).
They are calling for more rain up here this week so I it's becoming a case of go now as it might be dry the following week and I will have to work.
I am watching the forecast for your area which is only calling for a chance of rain- no big deal.
I will be there Friday and sat, and would love to ride with you guys on Saturday if you can.. Perhaps I should get a motel on your side of the hills friday eve?
I should know by Tuesday if this is a go. Send me a PM with contact #'s and I'll call you. Doug

I'll PM you right now. I should be free on Fri & Sat.
Anyone in the SoCal area want to join up?

You lucky bastids! :Flip: ;)

Post lots of pics so I can "TRY" and imagine actually riding... 22 degrees here today, a fricken' heat wave in NH for Jan! :Flash:

Sorry Man....Went riding yesterday. Prolly about 250 miles and the weather was, well, beautiful! Hope next Saturday is the same. This is our rain season and I believe this is an 'El Nino' year which generally gives us more wet weather than usual.

Other than that....... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zESYDjWrpbA&feature=related]YouTube - Albert Hammond - It never rains in Southern California 1973[/ame]

Hahaha! :rof::rof::rof:

Man I'd have to own a snowmobile or I'd go postal

I hear your heat wave, I grew up in Minnesota.

Hmm... this Saturday ride thing just might work. I may drag my good riding friend and his Beemer with me. We discussed it today while on a great ride in the sunshine (first time in 15 days).
Most of this for me is up to the weather. Rain up here and not down there-good.
Rain up here AND down there-no good.

Hope it rains up north and is dry down south for you

I got in 200+ miles today, it was a brisk 60°F. It was nice to get back on "Ol' Blue" again..

Ah man...it was nice to get back on the FZ for me too. I've been doing nothing but riding the DR since I got it in the fall. The last two weekends I've done a couple short coastal twisty rides and fell back in love with the FZ. Night and day from the DR on the high speed stuff. Twist to pass. Gotta love it.

Update: Red Wasp called me today and said he decided to boogie down the road and was calling me from Montezuma Valley Rd. He ran into some rain but he's doing great cuz he's got all the gear and that tall windscreen on his FJR 1300. He's having a blast checking out our area and is now in Palm Springs.

Well, we can still ride next weekend anyway. Saturday sound good to you, Cliff?

Yes! Saturday sounds great!

I talked for a good while with Red Wasp (Doug) last night and he said he was having a great experience. Has was thinking of heading to Salton Sea area maybe to check out the mud pots and then Joshua Tree Monument Park. He said to let you know that the route you provided was great and that he has utilized a lot of it.

Yeah! let's ride!!
