Site's Been Finally Blocked at Work

I'm not really for or against blocking sites tbh. The area I work in - it's a no brainer to have unlimited internet access, however I do work with some people who would surf all day given the chance. I've had facebook and others blocked because of it.

When people come into work, they come in just to do that. They're paid to work 7.5 hours a day and during that 7.5 hours I expect them to work, not to surf. In saying that during lunch it's up to them, I'm not worried as long as they aren't watching videos or using excessive bandwidth downloading CD's.

At the end of the day there has to be some give and take. If I notice someone taking the p**s they will be more restricted. After all it's me/my employer that is paying for them to work, not surf.

How many people run a pub/bar and allow the employees to eat and drink what they wish for free during working hours?

I gotta say that I'm pretty shocked to hear how common this is. I'm a prof, so we can always play the 'academic freedom' card if anyone messes with our internet access. I can just hear my colleagues screaming and marching on the quad demanding their internet back.....

What's funny is they usually exclude themselves from the filtering and usually look at the stuff that hr fires ppl over.

I've caught them at my company multiple times.
