Removed all those blasted stickers today - Looks much better!

Decided to remove all the decals today. Man does it look better. Removed them off tank, swingarm and the one on the frame.

Took me about 1/2hr.

Was really easy. Used a hot blow dryer got them really warm and just started peeling. Sprayed wd40 on them as well throughout the process. I used a plastic putty spreader to scrape them off the frame and swingarm, on the tank just used my nail. I kept cutting a little off the end of the scraper with a knife on an angle and it worked like a breeze.

Then after cleaned it all up with a clean cloth and more wd 40.
When all the residue was gone I waxed the areas.

I hated those stickers, only 140 kilometres on the bike.

Looks great! I've taken all but the upper frame sticker off thus far. I put on minimad's custom swingarm stickers.

The upper frame sticker came of easy, just heat it up really good with a blowdryer. I would not use a heat gun.

With wd 40 and a plastic scraper it came off fast. I had to undo the tank and lift it a bit at the front to get under it a little. Did not have to flip tank right back. Just lifted a bit and then put a little block of wood under where the bolts go.

The only sticker that I've left on my bike is the CDOT one on the right upper frame with the bike's VIN, production date, etc. I am going to take a digital photo of it and put that in the file with the rest of my bike stuff before removing it.

Looks good, I did the same thing today. I also got a small can of Automotive Flat Black spray paint and painted the radiator guards on the side of the radiator.

Thanks for the info, I've been meaning to remove the frame and swing-arm stickers. Like OneTrack, I figured I'd take digital pictures of them first, as they have some useful information. In fact, I may take the pictures, then have new stickers made by a print shop and stick them on in less conspicuous locations. For example, maybe the frame sticker could be affixed on the frame or somewhere else up under the tank, and the swing-arm sticker could be placed under the seat. I don't know why Yamaha couldn't put them in better locations. I removed the silly warning sticker on the tank above the gas-filler cap the first day I had the bike. I also removed the Yamaha tuning fork logo badges from the sides of the tank. I just didn’t think they looked very "classy", as they are stuck to a curved surface and are just plastic. They came off quite easily and did not have to be destroyed in the removal process like the other stickers. The adhesive is easily removed from the backs of the badges, which should allow them to be reused. I was considering putting them on the swing-arm – after I remove the factory sticker, of course.

I have been too lazy to take mine off too, but will do it soon. That tank sticker is silly.

I was thinking of sticking them to a piece of paper and filing them or keeping them in the manual. Are they too trashed after removal to save the originals?

This won't cut it with the DMV... A friend of mine did something similar, and moved out of state (from Ohio to California). They won't let him register the bike in CA cause the declarations sticker is missing. He called Suzuki for a replacement, they won't issue them, so he is stuck with a bike he can't register in CA.

I pulled the tank sticker long ago and will do the swingarm soon, but I live in CA, so that "beautiful" white VIN sticker has to stay on my otherwise black frame. I did the radiator covers just last weekend and was amazed at the difference. For those considering it, just remove them to see how it will look when black.

Personally, I like the stickers (except for the silly tank one). The frame label provideds visable i.d. info. I know somebody who partially removed the VIN sticker from her Toyota door frame. WTF? It's almost like removing the vehicle serial i.d with weight, tire air pressure, etc., info. I am surprised, however, that CA DMV won't register the FZ6 w/o the frame sticker. The VIN is stamped on the neck also, isn't it? I guess it goes w/o saying that some of the FZ6 posters think NASCAR vehicles are unattractive since they are more sticker than paint. But, I'm not critical of FZ6'ers who remove stickers...to each his/her own!

I took pictures of all mine before removal. I'm not sure if I will ever use/need the images but those stickers are gone.

yup i was gonna say u will have a problem with dmv, plus not sure but a dealer may not allow you to trade it in. they are there for a reason. they have to be in plain view look at any other bike u can see them, if they hid them there would be no point. It also helps when the bike gets a little older to know exactly what it is

If it is so important it should not be a sticker. I dont think its a big deal. No information on there that you really need. The serial number is on the bike frame and the using the serial number will get you all the info that is on the sticker.
