Does anyone in here EVER had to pull a shot gun in their house to protect themselves or their family (or anyone you directly know that had to do it)? And if you did, where the hell do you live and what happened?.....................
Maybe it
is 'cowboy' stuff.
I live ~30 miles North of Portland, OR. About 10 miles from a bridge over the Columbia river, 600 feet above the river, 3 miles from a 2 lane highway. Lots and lots of woodland surround me.... I am adjacent to 200+ acres of tree farm. I share over 3000' of fencline with those tree farms.
Nearest neighbor is a Buddhist Monk, 1/10th of a mile away. The two nearest population centers each have less than 5,000 people in them, and are 10 miles in opposite directions from where I live.
People have poached deer on my land, 100 yards from my house.
Unemployment is high, education is low, and the law is more of an abstraction than physical fact. The 2 county sherrifs partol from 8 AM to 5 PM, and there is only state patrol after that...... covering a county, as big as L.A. Nowhere near the people, but less roads and lots more privacy.
That state border 10 miles away is an ideal place to distribute. Almost halfway between Seattle and Portland. Lots of clandestine 'manufacturing' goes on in these parts.
The first week I moved in, my neighbors started showing up to say hello..... when they got around to asking what kind of security systems I had installed, they started hearing me practicing with the rifles and shot gun. they never got an answer, or a tour of my house.
It was told to me that putting up a fence and gates on my land, invited people to break in, because
that meant I had something worth stealing. They know my wife is home FT, and is a better shot than I am.
They seem to have reached the conclusion that me being a retired military guy who is not afraid to shoot weapons on my land...... maybe it's not so wise give me reason to aim in their direction.
5 years, and I haven't had a break in yet. A neighbor 1/2 mile away was beaten to death with a claw hammer. The felon who was out on parole who they brought in as principal suspect? Next door neighbor's kid to the guy. With a meth problem.
