Got married two weeks ago and we went to South Padre Island, TX, for a few days for our honeymoon. Went for a walk on the beach, I asked if I could bring my camera (she said yes). There were a bunch of families out there with flashlights looking for crabs and there were a lot of crabs. She was patient with me. The moon eventually came up too. The next night we went back to the beach without the camera and took that walk.

Camera: Sony A550 Lens: Tamron 17-50mm 2.8, cheap lightweight aluminum tripod.
I think I had the metering messed up as the pics seemed underexposed and grainy. I've taken other night shots that weren't grainy. Next time I'll pay better attention to settings.

In the very first image it looks like you shoot a f/11 for 5 seconds.

I'd try to open that aperture up as much as possible. If your still using the kit lens that would mean f/3.5 most likely. Otherwise a f/1.8 or larger lens would be best for night time.

Secondly, I'd go with much longer exposures than 5 seconds at night, somewhere in the 20-30 second range.

You got me thinking to post some night photos though!

I think most of those beach shots were done between 8 and 20 seconds and between f/8 and f/11 or so. Just guessing. Using the lens mentioned at the bottom of the post, a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8.

These are unofficial wedding photos taken with my camera that was handed between two people. Melody's sister did the actual photos and they're posted on another website.

The wedding was done on the bridge behind us in the first photo (Faust Street Bridge in New Braunfels, TX) at 11am. We were already starting to sweat, even in the shade. It's Texas! The reception was in walking distance and air conditioned. The back yard was used for family pics and such.

Nice. I bet a polarized lens would bring out more of the blue and cut the reflection.

It was taken with a camera phone Droid Razr HD, so i need to take the Nikon back there with the filters and snap a few more!

Thanks tho!
