Just for fun,here are a couple of answers I received

It was still Mt.Everest it just hadn't been found, or named yet, so i guess it could have been "that big a$$ Mountain over yonder" which was later renamed Mt Everest.

If i remember my geology facts from college, mount Everest is the tallest mountain (from sea level to tip) at at about 8900 meters. Although the tallest mountain from base to tip is over 10,000 meters, and that is Mauna Kea (hawaii) and is a underwater mountain.

there is also another discrepensy with a peak in the Andes I believe where it would be the tallest if you measured it from the center of the earth outwards to the tip, but it only reigns in at a little over 6000 meters from base to tip

In either case, they where still the tallest mountains upon earth regardless if anyone discovered them or not.
