So I was trying to switch out my front sprocket and I can't get the nut off on it. It is a reverse thread right? So I should be turning it toward the back of the bike? I had a pipe about 5 feet long on a wrench and I couldn't get it to go...any suggestions?

Nope, your would be tightening it that way... Turn it counter clockwise like any other nut....

sounds like you are lucky you didn't break the bolt/stud.....I am sure if you had it would be a major PITA to fix.

PITA wouldn't be the word, that bolt is the transmission output shaft. Screw that up and you're looking at rebuilding the tranny
