This is my missus 07 bike with the mods u talk about
when u paint the abs hugger/fender u use a etch primer paint which helps the paint stick and bend without chipping off just like all the plastics on ur bike
on her old R1 u could bend the plastics 180 degrees and no detrimental effects
If u r going to paint the hugger consider taking a dremel to it to make it much smaller as hers is in photos here
