It seems the economic fall was good for something after all. There is a failed land development in the town where I live. They got as far as building the sales building and one showroom house, but nothing else... but roads!

You have to go down a gravel road a bit to get there, and it's not somewhere cagers show up. I was able to practice turns and emergency braking with zero distractions or interruptions.

Even though it is not a "legit" race course, the ability to practice turns over and over again was great. Needless to say I was exceeding the posted 5 MPH speed limit . I was able to really practice leaning and countersteering to an extent I hadn't been able to before.

I'll go back next weekend for a few hours and practice some more. Here's some pictures, but they don't do the day justice. I have to wrangle up a camera mount and shoot some videos next time.

Yes! +1 and make sure you have a good description of your local. I saw a video recently where they had a cell phones and were brain dead stupid when it came to an emergency where a friend needed help. Also ATGATT!

Here is one in south Houston not to far from my house. At the north east corner that is not in view is an underpass U-turn. All with no stops.

We had a similar situation in the early 80s, a whole residential area's roads were built and no houses were built for many years after. We had a "track" layout that we used to ride, and it was pretty much a free for all. Because of the tight layout it was mostly little bikes, I had a Honda CB400N and I think there was one 500 used to come, nothing bigger.

One day I was playing there and having lots of fun. I had worn the footpegs on my 400 down to not much more than an inch and a half long from the cornering (Pirelli Phantoms were THE tyres to have in those days). I threw it into a right hander, felt the footpeg fold up, then the next thing the footpeg mount grounded which lifted the back wheel off the road for an instant... man down. I had a saucer sized hole in the butt of my jeans in an instant but the gloves saved my hand. The good old days!

Ironically, years later when they eventually built the houses I lived in that same area for about three years.

I was riding solo, but will try to find someone for next time. There are not a lot of sports riders here, mostly just people cruising or going fast in a straight line. The good news is I'm about 5 minutes away from the local emergency room at that spot! I always wear my gear, even with the 90+ degrees and 90% humidity. Ugh... fall can't come fast enough!

What a great find! Lucky bastid is right! I am totally green with envy. Nothing here is that large and abandoned and there's always a LEO to bother you when you are at a vacant lot.

Nice find! Be careful out there, and as was already said, bring a friend with you in case something happens. Nothing worse than crashing in a deserted area without someone to call for help.

Back in the '80's during the last recession the same thing happened and my buddy and I had our own race track. We took out brooms to clean the corners and then found some pylons to keep the cars out of the neighborhood.
