Motorcycle communication...

anyone tried any kind of motorcycle communication devices? I would like to get something to be able to talk to my wife while we are riding, jsut something that she can tell me something without trying to mime it out from the back... cell phone use isnt necessary, but it would be nice in emergency situations. Im looking at wireless as the best, but not fixed on that... trying to spend less than $100... any suggestions?

Do you both have cell phone's? If you do and have free mobile to mobile you can try getting a couple bluetooth headsets. No experience with this, just a thought.

Me and my wife have this system. It is a bit expensive but am very pleased with it. There really are not that many cables when its installed. One from each helmet to the unit. I don't use half of them. all the extras are for radios, cell phones and for and open face helmets. I liked the extra long battery life and the fact that if the battery does go dead they are simple AAAs if i remember correctly(might be AAs). i liked that we were able to use the mp3 input. we can hear each other no problems my wife puts the main unit (about the size of a wallet)in her pocket or it can go in the tank bag. i don't notice the cables what so ever when we are riding. when we aren't riding the cable get tucked away in the helmet or inside my jacket. I am very pleased with this system. The wireless for a decent one would have cost me too much. Make sure you read all the reviews on units before you make your decision. That's what made up my mind. I just bought the Scala Rider Q2 Multiset. It is BT but works up to 1600+ feet. Tonight was the first ride for us with both sets from bike to bike. We had zero trouble talking to each other for over 80 miles tonight. It was great! We chatted about work, idiot cagers, houses we passed, plans to stop for dinner on the way home, etc.... Just awesome!

Crystal clear, the range is accurate so long as that distance is open/unobstructed. Never lost comm with each other. It does time out if I don't speak for 15 seconds but a sharp sound like a whistle will activate the link again quickly. The Auto Gain Control (AGC) worked flawlessly by increasing the speaker volume as it detected ambiant noise like engine accelleration.

We are 100% happy with these units. But, they are a bit pricey. I got them from Abe's of Maine (Actually in NJ) shipped for just under $290.00.

I had the Scala Rider FM. It was great for the year and a half I had it. Although it has bluetooth capability, I didn't like that it was not AD2P compatible. The problem I had was that all of the sudden the battery quit keeping a charge. The battery can not be changed due being sealed. I am reluctant to buy another one because warranty is only for 1 year.
