Is it the Gears or Just Me?

I've had my fz-6 for a couple months now and it seems its shifting hard. From Neutral to first is the most noticable thump, but with higher rpms and lower gears its also quite noticable. I have adjusted my clutch to the 0.4in play the manual specifies. Is there some adjustment or lubercant I can try or am I just being to picky. Gig Em'

you could try an oil change, but changing to 1st or 2nd is generally quite clunky

I'm glad to hear you have the same issues! When I first bought my bike I went back to the dealer with this issue! I can't believe that my bike has a rougher transmission than my dirt bike!...

I changed the oil for the first time 500 miles ago. I thought the same thing with my dirtbike being smoother after swapping from a Honda dualsport to my fz.

I completely agree with Erci. It never really bothered me, as my FZ was the first sportbike I've ever owned or ridden, but mine also clunks into first gear from neutral. It's just the way our transmission is...there's nothing wrong with yours, OP.

However, last year I made the switch from regular oil to synthetic, and it did take some of the clunkiness out of shifting gears. I use the Rotella T synthetic that you can find at Wal-Mart for about $20 a gallon (as per lots of others recommendations). I think they've changed the name a bit, but Wal-Mart still sells it (as I'll be buying another gallon soon to do my spring oil change).

I've got a trick for everyone. When you want to start the bike, pull the clutch in and press on the gear selector whilst doing these 2 things press the starter button. It slips in to gear as the engine turns over with no clunk. Just make sure you start the bike when you wanna set off!

tbh i've grown to like the clunk, it lets me know when i've changed into 1st, which has stopped me shifting into the wrong gear a couple of times

college station for the win! i live in brenham ) and i had the same problem, i just lubed it up and the wire pulls alot easier

Also for the record, i thought it was hard too, until i met a fellow fz6'r in kileen, and his did the same thing, so you could possibly just be over hearing it and not meaning to, seems i did. but once you get up in the higher rpms she shifts much better yeah? and of course, i could be completely wrong
