Three weeks ago my '92 Toyota pickup, over 200,000 miles, got totaled. Finally got the hassle with the other guy's insurance finished, and am ready to buy a new truck tomorrow.
I have it narrowed down to two, but one's a mid-size and one's a large truck. I fit okay in the mid-size (I'm 6'5") but have more room in the large one. I'm more comfortable driving a mid-size truck, although I imagine I'd get used to the big one. They're both new, 4WD, extended cab, GMCs, with cruise, CD player and trailer hitch (all I really need).
The Canyon: $19,900, 5-speed manual (I prefer shifting myself a bit), 18 overall mpg.
The Sierra: $22,450, 4-speed auto, 16 overall mpg (has a trick V-8 that shuts down four cylinders when not under a heavy load), heavy-duty tow pkg that I really don't need.
I figured gas differences will amount to $3,700 over 100,000 miles. I really only use a truck for commuting in the snow, hauling plywood/lumber, skiing, hauling my keyboards if I ever get in a band again, and (yay!) possible future track days; either truck will perform those functions fine.
Anyone here have either of these trucks, or heard of any horror stories? I'm really torn on which one to go with. The GM "employee price" deal goes for another week, but I'll be out of town Tuesday on, so I pretty much have to make the decision and buy tomorrow. Thanks for any help!
