If you drive a vehicle towards a LEO he will perceive it as a threat. The rider doesn't need a gun to hurt or kill you or another citizen. The rider did know he was being stopped by authorities. He was lit up from behind and saw the LEO in the turnaround. That's why he slowed down.
Running someone over is an act that can result in death. The officer is trained to expect that.
The officer never threatened him with the weapon. If the officer was in uniform he would not have to ID himself and he would also have a gun.
I would rather have the cop stop a nut case that would maim or kill me or my family and friends first than ID himself. In this case the officer did identify himself and it was obvious he was being stopped. Engine off, key out, gun holstered.
It's easy for us to armchair what the results afterward the video, but in that moment without knowing the outcome of the stop there could be different scenarios and we could be saying to ourselves, " I would have drawn my weapon and dispatched the guy on the spot but instead this guy launched the bike and ended up killing and maiming other people down the road. It's all hindsight.
At the very moment the unmarked pulled up the trooper doesn't know the rider's not a nutter. The trooper is still assessing the outcome of the stop and whether it's going to be a fake, 'Stop and Launch'. I'm perfectly okay with how he performed his duty. The rider was never put in harms way except by himself.
The general public has a preconceived idea of who we are as riders because of a$$hat behavior like this.
This guy wanted attention and I'm okay with that cuz I wanna be loved to.

He furthered his plight by putting the video on the internet.
Some people know that they'll get immediate attention by becoming a threat to themselves or others.

I like wheelies, twisties, very fast ground coverage and people out enjoying their day. I don't like seeing a turkey that looks sort of like me about to get it's neck wrung!
