First oil change - only 70% disasterous

+1 on the cat litter for cleanups... +1 on screwdrivers for taking off oil filters, I have had many on cars that were on too tight


That is what I had to do.

Now I use the K&N oil filters because you can use you 17mm to spin it off.

I can always get mine off by hand. They don't have to be very tight to get a good seal and even though I lube the seal I'm always afraid I'll over tighten and tear the rubber.

My friend made a schute out of some old tin siding so his oil flows right into his pan. Pretty nifty. I just do it the ol' one eyed squint to judge the projection of the oil and hope for the best. Having a really big pan helps too ;)

I change my oil while out in the wasteland. Nobody cares what happens there!!

I didn't want to call attention to this, but it has been bugging me for a few days, you don;t just dump your oil out there do you? the incidental spill is one thing but if you just empty your engine on the ground then i have a problem with it...
