Hi all, I'm a new member having just passed the full bike test :rockon:.

Decided to celebrate by buying a 2004 FZ6 (pics attached). What do the good folks of 600riders think? Did I get a good deal?

She came with heated grips, top box and an aftermarket alarm. 14500 miles on the clock - looks like it's rarely seen poor weather! Bought for £1900 from a private seller.

Anyway, take care all!

Ben

Hi and welcome from across the big pond!
I think the key is are you happy? If you feel you paid a fair price, that is what's important!

Be sure to verify all of the maintenance items are done like fluids and such as its not many miles for the age of the bike. It may need the coolant, brakes, and fork oil flushed. Be safe and take your time getting used to her! Great little bikes for the price! Enjoy!

Hi Mr Impact!

The chap that had it rode it for 1000 odd miles a year but kept the servicing up-to-date.

You're right about getting used to her! It's a bit easier now I've made some adjustments to the gear shifter and brake levers; the previous owner had them set really high for some reason...

That Raven of yours sounds impressive btw!

Welcome to the forum and congrates on the bike, good choice!!

She looks brand new, especially for being in the UK (salted streets, etc in the winter).

May I ask what, in US dollars, you paid?

Thanks for the welcome Mr Townsend!

I think 1900GBP works out at roughly 2860USD at the mo.

I notice your FZ6 has bar risers - I was thinking of popping them on mine. What's your experience of them like?

Scott, please..

You got a screaming deal on the bike....

Re the risers, I'm 5'8", 57 years old and NEVER did the lean forward thing. I initially tried just 1" risers which helped, but eventually went to risers / setbacks. Slight forward position. All the cables / wires reach, you do have to re-clock(slightly adjust) the brake line as that will be tight...

For me, with the risers set/backs, are perfect... Very, very comfy.

Some pics;

You can somewhat see them in my main pic;

Hi Scott,

Those risers/setback look fantastic! Definitely the first mod for me. Like you I'm not into the lean forward thing - much prefer to sit up and enjoy the surroundings!

Also, your exhaust outlet pipes are immaculate! How do you manage it!?

Ben.

Looks good to me and if it's all working right you got a smashing deal, I paid £1400 for my '98 FZS6 with 24k on the clock.

Looks very tidy, nice bike :)

Hi Chephren,

Thanks for your response! Glad it's worked out as a good deal.

I've probably only had the bike for 48 hours but already I'm thinking mods. I can feel an addiction coming on!

That '98 FZS6 also seems a good deal. How recently did you buy it?

Thanks Ben.

They were nasty when I got the bike with 4,500 miles on the clock.

"Mothers Mag and aluminum polish" is what I used (NO sanding, NO steel wool) with alot of elbow grease. Initially, it's a PIA, after that, I might do them once every two months, takes 15-20 minutes. The bike is ridden for pleasure so every day, riding in the rain, etc will take MUCH more up-keep...

The "Fender Extender" helps keep crap off the header some and rocks from jambing up the radiator fan too (a common problem)

Nice bike! I picked up a 2005 FZ6 this past Aug for $2700. It was a one owner bike. The guy bought it originally from the dealer. He even had the spare key still in the plastic sleeve! All of the booklets and toolkit still original and no rust anywhere on the bike! This is my first real street bike. uploadfromtaptalk1452116582265.jpg
