I was on my way to work today and I suddenly get a phone call from my friend saying "I just found out your father was in the Hospital." The hospital is Barnes Jewish which is about 80 minute drive from where I was. So I dropped all my things and drove straight up there.

He was riding with the Amvets group until some riders in front had to slow down pretty hard, and being how big my father's 1600 pro star bike or w/e his back end slid out from under him while doing 60mph. This took place near St louis on I-64.

Luckily he was riding with maximum gear on. Helmet, gloves, chaps, boots the works. However, he was only wearing it all because it was like 40 degrees this morning. Usually he rides in a vest, jeans, skullcap, boots. Thank God it was cold out this morning other wise his face would of been torn apart going by this helmet.

The damages are: Left Broken / Dislocated Wrist, Broken Finger, Possibly broken Rib, something with knee cap (not sure yet). He told me he was conscious the entire time. He rolled down the Interstate 60 MPH.....Crazy stuff.

So many thoughts went through my head so quickly: Death, Paralyzed, Worse injuries, my Mother, Selling my bike (why I don't know, Guess I was scared)... I didn't know any of this till the 80 minute ride of hell was over. Those 80 minutes felt like years.

He will be fine, He will be sore for a week or two. Not how I intended for a Saturday to go. I'll keep you posted.

Fu**ing bastard is lucky and he was still worried about his leaves lol

I havent seen the bike yet. I will post them later when it makes it home.

I'm glad your dad is going to be o.k. What a sinking feeling getting a phone call like that. I hope after he recovers and sees his full face helmet it changes his mind about riding with a skull bucket.

Thanks for the info, Geoff. Glad to hear he will be alright.

Be sure he and his riding buddies get to thoroughly examine the damage that the HJC full-face helmet sustained. IT SAVED HIS LIFE!

Not the news anyone wants to hear, but glad to hear is is doing relatively ok all things considered! He will heal, it will just take time.

Tell your Dad we are thinking of him!

It's amazing how news like that instantly puts life in perspective and suddennly things you thought were important are not.

Keep us posted Geoff.

Had the same phone call several years ago. My Dad took out my new bike (79 Goldwing) and had an accident on it. Your decription of your drive to the hospital brought back a flood of memories. Dad only had a concussion and a cut on the bridge of his nose and fared better than my replaceable bike. I'm sure it was a huge relief when you got to the hospital and your Dad was relatively okay. Wishing him a speedy recovery! (& 3 cheers for good riding gear.....)

Glad your Dad's injuries are not that serious, as it could have been much worst.

The Full Face Helmet did it's job. Anything less, he would have to visit the dentist too.

I guess we should be addressing everyone and remind them to keep their safety margins.

Glad your old man is ok...sounds like he was very lucky. Tell him to buy a lottery ticket, cause he was so lucky he was wearing a decent lid...

Wishing your dad a speedy recovery...

Glad Pop is okay and will heal. Tell him we're rootin for him!

Those are relatively minor injuries for such a serious crash. Thank God he had the gear on.
Hope he recovers quickly.

Glad your Pa is relatively OK. He probably doesn't feel lucky, but it sounds like it was partly his lucky day. Sounds like it would've been really nasty if he was riding nekkid.

+1 on Cali rider's call of making sure he and his riding buddies have a good hard look at his busted gear, especially his helmet. That way that helmet might save more than one life:thumbup:.

A Get well soon from me too.
