Do you let anyone borrow your vehicle?

An interesting topic came up on the subject of letting others drive/ride your bike or car. Just curious if I"m one of the few who actually have loaned, or offered the use of my vehicle for whatever reason to friends or family. This of course is back when I actually owned a vehicle.

NEVER!!! Its my pride and joy, I've put so much money, time and "love" into this bike that NOBODY touches it...let alone gets on it to have a spin. I treat my bike like its my god...with respect and compassion. It gives me freedom and happiness so its the least I could do! I know a member on here made the mistake of handing over his keys and I really do hope his friend comes out the better side of the accident but that will never happen with me...I wouldn't even let anyone on to see what the seat was like.

Nobody rides my bike, but there's maybe 3 people on earth that I'd let drive my truck.

I've been in the position where I've needed to borrow my buddies truck for an emergency. I will only ride one other persons bike and he is the only guy that I allow to ride my bike. There is a guy with an 08 R1 on campus that lets everybody drive his bike and I personally think he is crazy.

There are just people out there who you know you can trust and then there are people that you know not to get involved with in matters like this.

My bike and car that's a big no let one of my son's use my car to go to prom and it came back missing paint on the front spoiler. The one and only time one of them drove it. Put to much time and sweat keeping it looking good.

Jim and I switch back and forth, but we mainly stick with our own. The FZ6 turns my crank and the Vmax does it for him. But once in a great while I want "more power hoohoohoo" and he wants my FZ to do some fun twisties.

So I guess for the folks who said no, you don't even bother asking others if you can borrow their vehicles? You just go and rent. Just because I'd figured that you would just want to avoid getting into a situation if there came a time in which they needed to borrow your vehicle after they lent you theirs.

It's only a vehicle! I'm not in love with nor worship any vehicle. If the bike/car crashes then I'll get another one, and won't be effected in the slightest. I can't understand those that freak out about it, those are usually the ones that are afraid to get it wet also. It's just a bike/car!

I agree, its a hunk of metal and plastic. As long as I know the person respects anothers things and is responsible they can borrow it.

i voted no, but it's a situational thing. Generally I don't ask to borrow vehicles, and I don't let people borrow mine. More likely I'll let someone borrow a car than a bike, but generally it's easier to avoid situations like that.

The people I know can ride, are always welcome to go for a quick spin

I voted yes but it's more like I let a select few people borrow a car/bike and they'd do the same for me. We're all in machines of comparable value, we're all responsible and I know that if something happened it wouldn't be because they were being a real bonehead. I wouldn't let just anyone borrow though... I've already turned down at least 3 requests to try out the my car from people who I suspect just want to flog it for the sake of flogging it 'cuz they're POS isn't that fun.

I agree with Hellgate - however - I have found that very few respect property to the level I do (ok - so I am anal about my possessions - really anal). So, I will only loan out my stuff to people who respect it to the level that I do.

Well for me I never use another persons vehicle or rent! My bike is always functional...I use it every day throughout the year.

If however I needed to use another vehicle I'd use my parents or sisters...never a friends.

Ah but alot of effort went into buying said vehicle. You may call it a hunk of metal/plastic but its an expensive piece of kit for anyone to buy!

I worship it because its mine, and i've worked hard to attain it!

Having worked hard to get it is what makes us anal about things we have.

My general thought is only loan to those who can afford to "you brake it-you buy it"

I'm with Pete with this one, but I wouldn't really call our cars, trucks or even our bikes just another hunk of metal and plastic, Well maybe for some, I'm sure there are some member who owns some POS's. But most of us have worked very hard to own what we drive or ride.

I do agree that vehicles or bikes will have certain sentimental value for many people.

I say no, but everyone I know has multiple vehicles as do I so we have no reason to borrow eachothers vehicles. Sometimes if i'm with a family member I will ask them if they want to drive, they usually decline not wanting to risk wrecking it.

I must be odd then! If I travel with a famely member I ask if I can drive. Don't really care who's car it is, I just like to have my life in my hands so to speak. I have insurance to cover any mishaps(never had one yet).

I think it has to do with ones personality. I myself believe everyone else is evil and not worthy of operating my vehicles.

I've only let a friend drive my car once with me in it because I was drunk. Of course we were driving to buy more beer.

Oh I did let my dad ride my bike, only because he's my dad and has 45+ years riding experience.
