Here's a somewhat long thread on the FJR forum I frequent.

Specifically post #44: Torque loss after service. - Technical/Mechanical Problems - FJRForum

Basically, an FJR was brought in for a valve check, CCT REPLACEMENT (updated version), etc to a dealership.

Apparently the cam chain was NOT ZIP TIED when loose (CCT removed) and jumped a tooth (denied by dealership and
would NOT check / repair it).

Bike would idle, mid range operation OK, NO top end.

Point being, if removing the CCT, pull the side cover and ZIP TIE the Cam Chain

BTW, the FJR and FZ6 cam chain, tensioner, valve check procedure is about identical to each other...

Id like to see the FJR cam chain layout, it must have a heavy arch on the slack side for all those folks to get them out of time.

FZ is pretty forgiving. If you DO NOT move the crank, its near impossible for CCT replacement to cause an issue.

Im not saying dont zip tie, but if you don't move the crank its not going to be out of time for making slack during CCT swap.

We do not know the whole story behind any of these cases. People do silly things and don't realize the error of their ways until it is too late!

Again FZ is not an FJR. Not apples to apples. But if yer worried, take the cover off and tie it. Cheap insurance.

FWIW; I intentionally turned the crank CW with the cct out and no issues unless you turn it CCW. Then its done deal as the slack side allows it to skip at the crank.

In that thread a before and after compression test would have revealed a lower static compression. But its more work and if you didnt know the before number it would be tough to compare across the net. Simple things like altitude and battery state as well as how long operator holds start button down changes values....

Just an observation....

Please read the entire thread.

NO we don't know exactly what the mechanic did. We DO know the results of his work and what the "FIX" was- (pic's to prove it).

At least 6 folks "nailed" the issue over the net, sight un-seen Of course the chain is longer, guides longer but
yes, its basically the same set up. And "cam chain drop" is the same if not worse on the FJR as there's MORE chain to drop.

Does this look familiar? No its not an FZ6, its an FJR. And just like the FZ, its had upgraded CCT.
