You should be in the ballpark, 4k of resistance in a 14v system brings you well under 3mA, plenty low enough, 1/4 watt would have been fine, 1/2 watt gives you some flexibility for later. I suspect you won't stop here.

Looks like you're going to start a little electronics toolbox, good way to get into some of the basics too.
All we are playing with here is Ohms law and one type of discreet semiconductor. Just starting to touch on power dissipation.

Have fun!

As I mentioned above, I made this switchback DRL circuit and built it on a doublesided PCB.

Switchback DRL circuit with POD indicators is posted here...

Post has the schematic, parts list, and timing diagram as well as board layout... switchback occurs ~1 second from last rising pulse of turn indicator actuation and then restores DRL on that side.

PCBA layout:

Now I'm looking to finish the rear. Next on the list is too install amber light strips where the passenger rear sets bolt up for turn and maybe run lights. I'll let you know how it goes.

The DRL/Turn indicators are made by Yamaha and are super bright....
Because the lights are so bright the camera made the pic pretry dark... DRL on below.
