Air Filter, are there any options

Looking for a replacement air filter and everything points to the K&N I'm Just looking for a standard option. Anybody replace their air filters with anything other than K&N and how much?

I called the local Yamaha "specialists" and they quoted me like 31.00 for the factory...Im not looking for anything special other than just keeping it maintained. Thanks a bunch

I was just thinking about this question the other day. I need a new filter and i figured there had to be something other than stock and K&N. Thanks guys
 
I used the factory part # and called around to Napa and PEP Boys to see if they could cross reference the part # to maybe one of theirs...but they said they didnt have any for that... they are usually pretty good with that though:confused: Anyway If anyone finds anything else out or knows anything please post I would be interested next time around. May be a little much but I like to change both filters during an oil change.

Try a fram ca3559. remove your stock filter from its frame, use a dremmel type tool to enlarge the opening and pop the fram in. I know it sounds kind of hokey but if you are careful it fits perfect and has a rubber seal to make it air tight. Sorry for no pictures but I did this about a year ago and didnt think about it, once you have the stock filter out and the fram in hand you will see how easy this is. the fram fits tight so theres no need to secure the filter other than putting it in the airbox. fram cost $7.00

K&N is the cost effective option, change two OEM filters for the price of one K&N which will last the life of your bike.

^^yeah but I've recently heard of rumors that K&N's high air flow design will allow more dust to enter (especially if you live in hot and dry areas)

Of course, AGAIN, this is another un-proven rumor. Everyone has a different opinion about it.

Back to the point, I don't feel the need to change the factory filter since it's not such a high expense IMO and it does its job as it is.

The other issue is increased air flow leans out the Fuel/Air ration. Not a problem if this is the only performance mod on the bike, but throw an exhaust on there and you will be running too lean to keep going without PCIII. Some people have been doing it anyway, but I think I'll stick to stock air filter for now.
 
Cheapest I found for K&N was $40.95, with free delivery.

They don't stock it, but I got mine the same day (directly from K&N through these guys) as the rest of my order from StreetSideAuto. Delivery was quick too. Bought last week, received them this Monday just gone.

You can also search http://www.knfilters.com for your specific vehicle, and it will show you the oil filter, air filter, etc. that they make for it.

Just got my K&N from the local stealership today, don't ask for the price..... stealership should clue everyone in. Anyway the install is straight forward and I tested the new filter in place, definitely gave the FZ6 more "umph", I also have the TB cannons on. Haven't installed the PCIII yet, having trouble downloading the fuel maps from the site. I will however work on that this weekend and see how that works. I can honestly say the bike is feels different now, even though the TB was installed prior to the new filter. I noticed the same thing with my old civic when I replaced the stock air filter to a K&N brand, best bang for the buck in the long run........ and it will run for a long time. I believe the guarantee is 1 million miles with proper care and maintainance of the filter.

And don't say clean it every 50,000 miles?!?!
 
Did I say 1,000,000 miles, so sorry, I believe it was 100,000 miles. I was back in high school when i last looked at the box. This time I just ripped open the box and drop the filter in,hahahah
 
I just put a BMC on my 06. Seems to work just as well as a K&N. Similar price as K&N, comparative build quality. Definitely a big improvement over OEM.
