'08 Mods complete!

What type of paint and color did you use for the radiator guards? BTW, you've got to get exhausts Bro. Just sayin, the stock exhausts are not up to par, and if you are concerned about making too much noise, get the Scorpions they are legal.
 
nimzotech, I used Rustoleum Metallic Auto spray from Home Depot. This was supposed to be Cobalt Blue and it is, but it isn't as dark as the bike. I'm going to try to add a couple more coats to see if they darken up more. Now, for the exhaust, I like the stealth feature of the FZ6 and don't care for any loud pipes personally. Since statistically speaking, somewhere near 80% of all crashes are frontal on bikes and typically squids doing something they shouldn't, I feel safe with the quiet mode. I'll give you a hint though... I have something in the making that will surprise everyone if I can pull this off. Look for an exhaust no one else yet has soon!

Reiobard, that there is funny sh*t! LOL! Seriously, it took me about 30 minutes to remove, sand, prime and paint them. Just wish they were as dark as the bike is! We'll see what a couple more coats does to them. I'm going to Cobalt all four foot pegs next. This winter, I intend to remove the rearsets and disassemble them for a Cobalt powder coating. Most have gone with black on black but I'm looking for something more unique. Come on over and we'll grab a can of Team Yamaha Blue and coat yours too!

FZinNH, thanks for the pics :thumbup: That is the racing version correct? seems tall (i am about form over function on some things :D )
as for the radiator guards I am not totally feeling them... but that will change as you color match more stuff. Also maybe a belly pan will help set them off.

On another note, a light mist of black paint between the blue will help darken up the paint. (this may take a few trys to get right so radiator guards is a perfect place to start.) :D

Yes, this is the racing screen, part # 30-1590. It is a little taller but that is because of the bubble too. This is why it is so effective at pushing the wind around you.

After I painted them and they dried then I put them next to the bike, I realized my mistake. I should have used black primer and not gray. But, I'll fix it and then do black primer on the foot pegs so it'll match better. I didn't expect a perfect match but..... So, I'll try your approach and dust them with some black, then hit them with the Cobalt once again. That should correct it. Once done with the covers and four pegs, I'll get some decent sunshine shots of the whole bike. The flash pics don't help the matter at all.

Worse case scenarion? I strip them back to metal and powder coat them black to match the frame. :D At this point, I'd only be out $10.00. :thumbup:

no problem but like I said a few other pieces painted and it could make a world of difference. :thumbup: nice work!
 
Damn FZ6inNH, I must have missed that thread until now... awesome work, the bike looks better on each page!

Thanx! I appreciate it! As soon as I get the color matched right with some black undercoat, I'm doing all the pegs in Cobalt Blue too. I'll get it polished up and post some full shots down at the bay again when the sun is high.

This winter, you're going to see a one of a kind exhaust if I can pull this off. I'm not letting out the secret until it's done and satisfactory. ;)

Also thinking of ditching the stock stickers and going tribal with a custom job. I've got to find the right person for the airbrushing though.

yeah I sent that link to my g/f around my birthday and she went to our local dealership and they said they couldn't get one for a few months :mad:

migh be out now though! Hurry up christmas!

Purchased! I got one from the local dealer. They have claimed that it will be 7 to 10 business days. I'm curious about whether they can get one that quickly. However, Rocky529 got his '08 in Cobalt Blue from a dealer without any delays. They must be readily available now. :thumbup:
