Scorpions, Sluggish after Install

My bike seems very sluggish and non-responsive after installing scorpions. Not getting the same pop as I did with the stocks. Does this mean I need to get "Dyno Tuned"? Or just a regular tune up? Anyone in the Boston area know of a place to get it tuned? Had a hell of a time just getting anyone to answer the phone today, peek season I guess.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I didn't notice any sluggishness with mine but I didn't notice a power increase either. I think the only real gain was peak HP I gained 1 MPH on the top with mine

I dunno if it applies to the Scorps as weel, but I found this in a thread about the Leo Vince pipes and thought it may be of help to you. take notice of the bold text.

No. At LeoVince we ENGINEER our exhausts to be plug and play! For street bikes our slip-ons will bolt on and offer a substantial performance increase without any further work. The same holds true for our full systems. We suggest disconnecting the battery and leaving it disconnected for a few minutes after installing either pipe, then reconnecting the battery and starting the bike. This allows the ECU to reset and adjust its own air/fuel parameters based on its sensor readings. Should you want to add an air filter, change fuel maps, adjust the ECU or make other performance enhancements we suggest you invest in dyno time with a professional facility. This will ensure you only further increase the significant performance gains a LeoVince full exhaust system will give you. For dirt bikes we always recommend the stock jetting. Our pipes perform very well with stock jetting and rarely require any changes"

Did you try bumping up the idle screw some. Mine changed alittle after installing my Two Brothers Racing exhaust. I bumped mine up some and made a difference.

Try entering Co mode and adjust the Co settings. It mad a difference for me when I installed my Akrapovic slip on:thumbup:

Some thing isnt right here, to lose power after install.

I can't confirm it but the 'seat of the pants test' says my bike is a little sluggish after my LV install too. I just assumed I needed a PCIII and remapping which I haven't done yet

the papers that can with the scorps said the same thing, basiclly plug and play, no remapping required. but I'm wondering if they caused a lean condition on top.

just 1hp... it seems like there should be some way better ways to gain alot more hp then doing a exhaust... isn't it like 700 for those exhaust? that seems crazy high for just 1hp.

That is a steep price to pay for only a 1hp bump, but most people get the exhaust to cut some weight off the bike and to get some more sound. The stock exhaust is already tuned to the bike to give it peak power without having to tinker with it. Adding a new puter will give it a boost and also by modding the intake. There were some discussions about that earlier, but I'm too tired to go looking for the links at this moment.

It is weird you got a drop in HP though....the seat of your pants test is usually pretty accurate. Did you disconnect the battery and let your puter reset?? May solve the problem.

Oh yeah, I'M BACK STATESIDE!!!! :cheer: Had the weekend to get settled and buzzed up. Haven't been able to get out riding yet because the guy who stored my Fizzer in his garage lost the damn key!!! I'll get a locksmith to cut me another one tomorrow. My spare is in storage, so lord knows when the Army will get that stuff back to me!?!?

Happy riding. :Sport:

Will this only work on the 2007 and later bikes as pre 2007 don't have the air sensor (to my knowledge)

Welcome back safe and sound buddy, enjoy your RnR.

to clarify I didn't say 1 HP I said 1 MPH on top. I was saying I think the increase was in the peak horse power, but I'm sure it is at the cost of torque.
I didn' buy them for more power, I got them for the sound. I'm not blaming the pipes for what happened to my FZ6 it may have just been a coincidence or maybe they made it lean on top and it was a factor in what ever happened to the top end on my bike. I know for a fact when I put SE II exhaust with removable baffles on my sportster, the bike ran much better with the baffles in. if I pulled them it sounded better but it lost all of its power. but thats talking apples and oranges here.

You could be right, I'm unsure about that myslef. I have an '04 and didn't read about pulling the power until after I had fitted and gone for a ride, seems to run fine for me. (I haven't dis-connected the battery at this stage)

I only got them for more noise, the smoother running and better response are just a bonus as far as I'm concerned.

:)

Hey welcome back, I'm glad to hear you are home safe and sound! Hopefully your friend will find that key soon and you can take her for a spin.

I have a 2006 (so, not sure if the next step will work), I'm going to try the battery dis-connect in a few days when I run low on fuel. So from what I gather, Dyno mapping is a preference, not a necessity? If it continues to run sluggish I'll have to get it checked and maybe serviced.

oh, by the way, I'M BACK TOO!!! Probably won't get the love Pete gets, but what the heck. I'm not a super member....LOL.

That makes sense Nelly. Because the pre-'07 had no sensor, it cannot possibly learn to adjust to these types of changes. Good catch!
