How hard was it to put on the r6 swing-arm? Because I am interested in swapping out the '04 swing-arm for something bit more good looking.

Update:

Yoshiki, yes you can use handle bars, but you nedd to drill and mount special clamps for the bars.

Taku, the R6r swingarm is a direct fit, but mounting the shock is very difficult, it requires alot of mesuring, cutting, welding, test fitting, then more cutting, welding, and test fitting, I've been working on it for 8 hours, and I'm only 1/3 finished, good thing I don't go back to work until Thursday

Well my buddy came over after work today, said he's fed up with working on it, after I told him he built the shock upsidedown, I just got back from the store, I went and bought a welder and supplies, so I'll build the shock mount and riser clip-on's myself, sorry I don't have any new pics.

I finally have a shock mount that works! it took 6 hour to fabricate a new one, plus an hour learning how to weld, and about an hour of test fitting, I WILL make the R6r shock fit! now it needs painted. Installed the freshly painted tank and fuel pump, and a set preload adjusters, dialed in the suspension (preload, high & low speed compression, rebound), installed DDM Tuning 8k kelvin H.I.D's in the projectors, finished the tail frame, needs paint aswell, alright I'll shut up for now.

Well...... no progress today, I woke up to the sound of rain on the roof, which then turned into snow , by time the weather cleared up I had to attend a 2 hour safety & fall protection meeting at work, oh well... maybe tomorrow after work I can get something done.

Could you do a write up on the swing arm adaptation? I'm sure many here would really appreciate it. Especially a sketch of the shock adaptor.

The orange is a great color on this bike.

I have two questions for you:

1): What is the other end of the shock linkage attached to; did you make another mount on the lower portion of the frame?

2): How are you planning on attaching the upper shock adapter?

Im still new to all of this but it looks like your rearsets are back farther, how did you do that? was it a plate or a entire conversion with the swingarm?

Sxty8goats & Skooter65: there is no need for a write-up of the swingarm swap, it's a direct fit, the shock however is is a different problem, I will NOT create a rear shock write-up, it's a lawsuit waiting to happen, think about it, I'm using low carbon steel from the U.S. Army, my friend works at an Army repair facility so I have access to good quality scrap metal, if I build the shock mount and it breaks, then it's my falt, but what happens if someone tries to make a duplicate out of cheap metal and it breaks? I am not a professional welder nor has anyone tried to mount an R6r shock, so it's a do it at your own risk modification, I don't want to hear " My husband died in a motorcycle accident because he tried to make it look like someone's bike he saw on the internet", sorry.

That's exactly why I wanted to know; the holidays are coming and I need some quick extra cash :sinister:

No, for real though, I wasn't really looking for a write-up. I just wanted to understand the shock connections (It is the engineer in me coming out).

Good luck with the rest of the build and try to take some of your own advise if you feel the attachments are not suitable. I am sure no one wants a dreaded phone call about you either.

Well.... I finally finished tweaking the shock mount, now I can weld all the seams and give it some gussets, hopefully I can finish the bike before Sunday afternoon, it's suppose to be 60 degrees and sunny.

Nice to see your making some decent progress....i will be rather impressed if you can get it all back together and running by tomorrow!

But then i suppose once you get working, things happen quickly...

I would love to have it up and running, but I work 6 a.m.- 6 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday), I might pull an all-nighter tomorrow, which is possible if I finish all the grinding and welding before the 11 p.m. noise curfew, don't want the cops to show up at 2 a.m. to give me citation for being rowdy.
