I just won an I Pad!

Won it thru a drawing. I was wondering if I will be able to access the forum with this and will I be able to post up too?

I'm not too technical, I don't even have a fancy cell phone. I just use to call or text.

The question is, how much more is it going to cost me to get this thing to work? I already have my cell phone through AT&T and pay just $30 a month.

Congrats Vegasrider, nice score! My wife just won an iPad last Friday too! Only I had to pay for hers...$629 + tax.
It won't cost anything to run as long as you are in a "hotspot" for internet connections. If you want to be completely mobile you can buy internet access through iTunes in your iPad. Your iPad has to be a 3G model though to do that.
The upside of my wife's iPad is that it'll fit in my tank bag and I'm bringing it on the L.A. trip in a few weeks. There was no way I could bring my laptop with me to be able to check emails and surf while at the hotel.

I believe you can just use Safari to surf the net and this forum.
They make special software for iphones and ipads for forum browsing. I think people here use tapatalk.

It costs money, but you can always jailbreak your ipad and download the torrent. You can also piggyback on someone else's itunes account and split the costs. Did they jailbreak the ipad yet? I dunno.

You can always just keep your ipad in airplane mode and go through a wifi network. You just won't have a 3g plan through ATT.

Go cheapo and just use it as a mini-laptop. That's what I would do.

I believe HTMLS takes the place of flash somehow. I am not familiar with it at all but I have heard that it is the answer to Adobe not working with Apple.

True, HTML5 may eventually take the place of Flash, and I'm definitely all for moving away from Flash. It's a resource hog. But web sites need to actually implement HTML5 or it's useless, needless to say. YouTube has HTML5, which is a huge step.

Flash is crap. It doesn't hold up to W3C standards. It's been around to fill a hole in the standards specification. That hole has been filled with HTML5.
I hope Flash dies quickly. We need open standards!

i'm going to figure out a way to get one when they come out with the g2 versions. i will absolutely need my laptop for things. but to be able to go around campus with an ipad, verses a laptop, will be so much easier. they are light as can be and will do just about everything i'd need in a standard day. i'd hate to do my expense reports on them, but email, surf the web, or even type up some docs... oh yeah, i'm getting a g2 as soon as they come out.
