Top Saddlery seat defect?

Top Sellerie's most recent email to me was apologetic and they told me to basically ship the seat back usps, make a copy of the invoice(for shipping) and they will refund me the shipping and have the seat repaired within 48 hours. That sounds great but I am still worried about the handling of the box with usps going both ways. I thought that deducting the cost of what it would be to repair the seat(an opton i asked them to honor) would be cheaper for all involved and faster but I guess they didnt particularly want to go that route.

What you can do is this, pack it VERY well on this end and ask them to return it in the same container packed the same way? Just a thought!

And you expect the woman rolling her eyes at the USPS place by my house to listen? And like she, the one at the counter will take what I say into consideration? Trust me, i can try, but its luck I feel. That box will go through alot of hands so its like a crapshoot. I would rather Top Sellerie say send it Fed Ex.

What does she have to do with YOUR packing? I packed my own and TS received them just fine, without damage or complaints. Don't let someone else pack it for you. Do it yourself and do it right.

Update: I received and email today offering to make things right. They are offering a refund for shipping(with USPS receipt) and gel inserts to make up for all the hassle. I declined the gel and asked for a slightly lower seat or just my original order. I cannot find my USPS receipt(probably tore it up in disgust). So, I proposed to apply the money I lost in shipping towards a faster shipping method. Hopefully an undamaged seat will show up soon. I do appreciate the effort that TS seems to be making here. I will keep everyone updated on what happens.

I'm actually kind of impressed. I've wanted a TS seat for a while, and started this thread thinking "no way!" and I'm ending thinking they're actually offering to work pretty hard to salvage their reputation (e.g. actually fix the seat vs. refund $ to make the problem go away). They could use a little help in expressing that in a manner Americans would appreciate, but still...

Proof is in the results of course - I'm interested in hearing how this turns out for those of you with bad experiences that they're trying to put right.

Usually, people rave about the seats. I'm with the thoughts of the packing being the culprit as a working hypothesis for now.

Watching to see how it turns out...

this also is funny to me.

That was "tens of centimeters" not "tenths", so like a foot or more. It's a metric thing ;)

I just want to acknowledge YamahaMAXdRPMs effort to stand up for fellow members. I do appreciate that.

I will also allow someone to right a wrong if they are offering (in the case of TS), as well.

It has nothing to do with MY packing................its just what happens IN ROUTE. I should pack it in a cement box. lol

My box will go out next week to Top Sellerie. The current box is pretty sad the way it came to me so a new one is needed. *Fingers crossed*

They need to see how beat up their box is, to understand what happens with their packaging.... good that you are sending that one back to them.

Not a good idea because the box wouldn't make it. If other members feel like posting pictures of how their box arrived that's fine, but i would never re-use the same beat up torn box.

It would be best, to pack the seat in their box, then pack that one inside something with adequate padding to make sure it arrives without further damage... but do what you are comfortable with. Without the evidence of a damaged shipping container, they are much less likely to believe the truth.

I used to spend a lot of time working with packaging engineers in commercial electronics. It's amazing how many gees something can be subjected to in shipment. Droppig a box onto a conrete floor from waist high can generate 100+ gees on the contents, if there is not adequate padding. Shipment in a truck will chafe and fret stuff a tremendous amount due to bouncing around in the bed.... even if it's strapped down on the outside of the box.

if i can pack that box inside a box i might, but it will add to the shipping weight. enough people have expressed about the shipping boxes here and TS mentioned it to me in an email. and thanks for making me look up the word "gees" wtf. ;)

Fighter aircraft are made to sustain 9 gee turns.... that's more than the pilots can take... blackouts occur within seconds due to blood draining out of the head. Not good on internal organs, either....

Air to air missiles? around 30 gee.

I once worked on an inertial nav system for an artillery round... it had to survive being slammed into the breach, and then being shot out of the tube......... 30,000 gess. That one was part of the Excalibur program.

Folks riding the space shuttle experience upwards of 5 gee just before the main tank runs dry....

Your brain is about the consistency of Tapioca pudding, floating in a small amount of fluid....... Snell helmets and DOT helmets both are designed to limit the number of gee applied to your brain to keep it from being slammed into skull fast enough to cause bruising. Something like 100 gee involved in that one, as I recall.......

My returned seat went out USPS just a little while ago. I sure hope TS makes good on it's promise to refund my shipping cost and get the seat returned in new condition quickly too. I really love the seat. Good luck to me.

Update:

Today I received an email from Top Sellerie saying they didn't want to wait for my returned seat and shipped out a brand new seat to meet the specs i chose. I have also received credit on my shipping charges as they stood by their word of refunding me for that. I will now wait for the new seat to arrive. So far so good........:D

wow. i'm impressed. hopefully this one will turn out well and the issues people have had on here will be taken care of. they make a great product when everything comes together correctly. if they're customer service matches their product there's no reason someone shouldn't order from them. keep us posted.

That is awesome news! I hope it arrives in perfect condition!

It would appear that they are very interested in salvaging their reputation and now that the one "Bad Apple" there is removed and the information is reaching the proper folks in the company, they aim to rectify the errors left by that ex-employee.

Kudos to Top Sellerie!

Update: TS offering to pay 61.00 without shipping receipt for first seat sent back. New upgraded (lowered) seat with my original choices for fabrics and stitching on the way according to TS, as well! Will post pictures upon getting the seat.

I really hope all works out, I was very close to ordering one, however this recent rash of problems made me wonder.......
