Fork Oil Stock Weight?

I am undersprung, and I would like to replace my stock fork oil with a heavier weight. I was wondering what the stock fork oil comes with.

And how many quarts will it take to replace the oil?

I'm going to try to just replace it with heavier weight oil rather than getting new springs. I weigh about 160 lbs with gear and I don't think new springs will make that much of a difference.

Service manual states suspension fluid 01

And how many quarts will it take to replace the oil?

1 should be enough for both forks

Fluid 01 is 3.5-5.5 weight (pretty much water)

I used 15 weight and love it!

I re-sprung, but just thicker oil will make the forks a bit more predictable and less reactive to every little bump in the road. Less jittery if you will...

I hit the search and it came up with 21 pages of threads. I found some with related subjects but not specifically what I was looking for. I had no idea that the stock fork oil only came in 5 weight.

Will go with 15 weight and see how it does.

As far as doing the work myself, I'm actually going to get my steering head bearing replaced by a local mechanic, and I'm going to have the fork oil replaced at the same time. Origianlly I had planned to get new springs, but opted to try different weight of oil first.

Hey Vegas have you changed your fork oil to 15w? I'm thinking of doing the same. The stock springs rate is close to what the racetech calculator recommends for my weight, but I'd like something a little harder on the front. I wonder if changing the fork oil would do it.

Sad to say no. But will do it very soon. Just trying to squeeze my bike into the shop that 's going to replace my steering head bearing too.

Working out the logistics, since my bike is my only ride, and this particular shop is 20 miles away from work, it will be tough to get my bike fixed with conflicting schedules.

Holy hell man, that sucks. I love bikes and all, but they do have their limitations.

Next project-getting a drivers license.

Just kidding , I'm sure it's the case with most states, you have to have a drivers license in order for you to receive your M endorsement.

However, because I only have motorcycle insurance, my insurance will not cover any rental vehicles, so I would have to purchase the insurance from the rental agency, which can exceed the actual cost of the daily rental for the car. In any event, if I ever do, I'll be sure to take advantage of the insurance and drive the car like a rental should be driven.
