The "Off Topic" thread...

Hey Mike. Was talking to a guy at work, and we started talking about mileage. I told him about your mammoth effort, 36,000 Km in 10 months... He's like "WTF... I got 32,000, but thats after 10 YEARS riding"... :rof:

:)

Yeah. Most people don't quite get it I think...lol. Not sure about the whole comparing me to a mammoth though...lol.

They're nowhere near as hairy:eek::spank::spank::spank::D.

I've got 31 days left now 'til the bike is 12 months mine, and I'm over 37,000km. I don't think I'll quite make 40,000, but it won't be far off.

I had over 100,000km on my biking clock when I bought this beast.

I'd be 150,000 motor bike km now.

Cheers
Mike

Any of you Adelaide guys see the paper this morning.
The "Brown Stuff" has hit the fan at work. I have 7 Nights of work left this month, then both Arvo and Night shifts are getting canned, every one will be doing day shift, the current day shift will work one week, then the current arvo shift crew will do the next week.... so on and so on. When Days are working, the arvo crew will be on 50% pay, and vice-versa.

This is going to suck... Big time. For me, going from nights to day shift, I will lose 30% pay (loading), then work 2 weeks a month for 3 weeks pay (2 weeks at 50% pay).

Time to look for a new job. I have already seen a guy about some casual shifts (started sorting that out last week... before any of this was on the cards).

Looks like I'll have to tighten the purse strings for a while.

Could be worse, at least I still have my health

Yeah mate. My bro works at Walkers. Basically the fact that the tarrifs are so low means cheap imported cars are too attractive:(.

16% market share for Holden, Ford, Toyota a few years ago is down to about 5% or less now. I think the Govt had the idea of seeing the displaced labour go into mining....until the 455 dropped out of that too.

Hang in there mate. I hope something a bit more full time turns up soon.

I saw that Dave and thought of you straight away.Sounds like they are trying to force people to leave without offering packages.Hope it works out for you mate.

Not only that but it makes people 'top up' their 50% time with long service etc meaning that in the end packages will be less too.

This GFC really sucks.....peope i know are losing their jobs all over the place....

Dave, i am sure you will find decent work, you are a great bloke, who was plenty to offer.....good luck getting through this, i have been in a similar situation in the past, it will work itself out.

Yeah, I'm thinking about 20% of the work-force will quit, thus saving the company money on VSP's. I'm not keen on day shift, but it's still a job (although, really, only half a job :( )

On the good news side of things, I got a phone call from the boss at the casual job I was lining up, he wants to see me Monday morning for an interview and to give him my bank and tax details... so looks like I'll be topping up my pay with some casual work at St Vincent de Paul.

Not good dave, deb said send us your resume and she will pass it on to a girl we know who does blue collar recruiting, give a explanation of what you want as in days/nights hours so on. We have felt the pinch also ive had 3 financial cuts to my pay and deb has just been told she is out of work from june.

Thanks Jules, I'll keep it in mind. (My resume doesn't have much in it... factory work for the last 20 years).

I personally know the director at St Vincent de Paul, and from the phone call I got today, it sounds like I'm going to do ok with that.

If it doesn't pan out that way, I'll get my resume off to you.

Cheers mate.

No worries Daniel.
Have great news myself. I had the interview this morning, and I got the job. Will be doing some casual shifts to make up for my lost wages at Holden.

I start this Thursday, which is the first day of another 2.5 week shut-down at Holden.

Are you going to do both both jobs Dave...or can you?

Yeah. Holden are even going to offer to help pay for training for us to get a second job to cover lost wages.

My casual job will be as a fill-in for when people are away, and once I have my roster for Holdens, they will ring me if needed when I'm available.
