Wifes first time out!

Took my wife out today..been warming up so finally had a chance to get out and adjust the preload. My first time with a passenger, so stayed close to home off the main roads to get used to the extra weight. I'm told that she giggled like a schoolgirl coming through corners and when I sped up on the straights. Would have been nice if I could have gotten a picture of that!

Nice, glad she liked it. My fiance will ride with me, but she is terrified of the highway and won't go if the weather is below 90 so you're lucky.

My wife is the same way. I hope over time, I can get her own a few short rides around the neighborhood, and slowly advance to longer and longer trips. But I am not going to hold my breath.

Congrats on your wife. Excellent family time. Trust, bonding, and all of that good stuff. At least that is what I tell the wife.

My partner, Jannie and I rode 2 up to sweden in 2007 and then to France in 2008 and this year it will be either Norway or Italy.

When it comes to bikes she is more experienced than I am but has only ever been a passenger.

I am pleased your wife enjoyed the ride. It is so much easier for the relationship when the other half likes bikes because it also involves all the social side of things as well.

Sweet! Glad she liked it! My wife loves to ride along as well. I suggested we buy her a bike of her own, but apparently she would rather just be a passenger Oh well, she's a bit accident prone anyways!

I really don't know why more women don't ride - I'm doing my best to change that with all my friends.

I used to just ride cupcake with my husband.....but over time, I felt it was something I wanted to experience for myself. I used to ride as a teenager, so I wasn't completely new to riding. Women riders are also growing steadily in numbers......and the link below is a decent site for women riders :rockon:

I wouldn't let her on with me until i'd been riding for a bit so I could get the feel of the bike. I can feel the extra weight on takeoff, and braking takes longer, but otherwise, it handles fine. Took her a bit to find a comfortable position to sit in and to get used to gripping with her legs when going downhill or stopping or she started sliding forward, but once she got the hang of it it wasn't too bad. However, she does like to hold onto me up close, which puts weight down on my wrists/arms, but we got that sorted out in the end too.

Jannie and I went out with a friend on his Intruder 1400 a couple of weekends ago and it was freezing cold. His new girlfriend was on the back for the first time. We did about 200km and she loved it so much she went out the next day and bought a new helmet.
Now she is a biker chick.

I took my wife out yesterday for the first time. After she got used to it she LOVED it! When we first started out, she had a bit of a death grip around my torso. After a while she relaxed and really enjoyed it.

It wasn't that bad actually. Adjust the pressure in your tires, and I had to adjust the preload on the rear shock. We came up with a signal if she needs me to stop. The bike rides heavier, but still handles the same, more or less. I did stall it for the first time in months with her on it though...didn't give it enough gas to get started on a hill.

I took a passenger once to make sure I could if I needed to, and it was a very different feel at slow speeds. Once we were actually on the road and moving, I could barely tell (and my passenger was close to my weight) that there was anything back there, except that I had arms on my waist. Of course, she also was a fairly experienced passenger, so that probably helped.

Congrats on getting your wife on the back. With any luck she will love it and desire one of her own someday. I love riding pillion with Rob (it's a whole different experience) but I would never trade in having my own....

Greater stopping distance and more throttle to get going from a stop...those are the first things I noticed. While moving, not a whole lot of difference.

Looking at the title, i thought this was a muslim thread, i thought you never let your wife out of the house and she finally got out for the first time and you were celebrating, im glad thats not the case. That would be too bad for the wife and everybody else.
