or ask some of your fz6 brethren that live in the us to mail you a few! I have seen at some truck stops that they carry a 3-jug box, a couple of those and you are set!:thumbup:

The best part is you could play the smugglers blues on your ipod as you blast across the border on a blacked out DZR-400. Wear nightvision goggles with infrared iluminators and just totally rock the badassedness of it.
Maybe you could call yourself Oilclaus, bringing joy to our northern brethren.

I never realized that the 5w-40 synthetic had such a wide range of usage temperatures. Is the same oil used in New York during the winter really just as good in Florida during the summer??
Sorry for my ignorance... I am just new to synthetics and want to know everything about what I do to my FZ.

Oil is really interesting.
The 5w is when it is relitively cool. It flows easily, and quickly lubricates moving parts. The fortyW is when it has warmed. There are little (chains) for lack of a better word, that coil up when cool, and stretch out when warm that change the viscosity. The transmission gears chop these chains and help along with wear to change the viscosity of the oil. Synthetic in testing does better at staying in grade longer. It also has more tolerance to heat and abuse.

OK, I think I have read about every oil/oil change/oil filter thread that there is and have come to the following conclusions: At some point, I will use Shell Rotella 5W-40 synthetic and a Purolator PureOne oil filter. However, I just passed the 100 mile mark on my new '07 FZ6, and I'm still a little unsure about changing the oil now rather than waiting until the 600 mile mark. I guess I feel that it can't hurt to change it now (right?), so I've more or less decided to do so, using Rotella 15W-40 non-synthetic for this change. The question of the day is, should I also change the filter, or is it OK to leave the original one on until the 600 mile change?

If I recall correctly that stuff is ~$18 per quart, there are much better oils out there for half of the cost. I have not used it, but I doubt it will hold a candle to Motul 300v full ester oil (GRP V) and the Motul is around $15 per liter, as are the Repsol 4T Racing oils. I am not saying it is bad a bad oil, just unknown and very expensive. Untill some reports (UOA's) show up with excellent wear numbers on an extended OCI, then I will continue to use what has proven it self in the past.

sir issac that is another "whats best" question. I would change the filter with it and look inside, when you see all the metal particles you will understand why. How much is a filter? I change mine EVERY oil change no matter what the manual says.

Amsoil, why, because Amsoil says it's the best! Actually, used it in my son's motocross bikes and just continued in the FZ. Nobody has every complained about it anyway.
The real answer to this post is, do what you makes you feel good. I change the oil and filter often, it's easy, and gives me something to do on a rainy day. For the three quarts of oil it takes and the punishment a high revving engine places on the oil, i rather pay the price of changing the oil a little sooner then having to pay for an engine rebuild.:thumbup:

Will the amount of regular oil still in the filter cause any issue when used in combo with the full synthetic? I know they make blends, but I am oil-ignorant.

Yes you need to change the filter. No the oil wont cause a problem, they will all mix. Just change the filter.
Purolator pure one. PL14610 is the best value for the highest quality filtration and best anti drainback valve, in my opinion. Just a awesome filter. Research it and you will see why.
Advanced Autoparts stocks them.

They were actually out of that one (and the PL14612). Just curious, what color is it? All the pictures on the internet are blue... I am cool with that. However, I would not like a white one. Black is preferred of course.

I wonder if you could spray paint it? Maybe i'll try that next time.
Also- the cup style oil filter tool works easiest on the FZ6, plus you can get your torque wrench on it. I don't remember the size, i just took the filter out of the box and checked till i found one that fit.
I just changed my oil and filter, used Rotella T 15W-40 with the pureone 14610. No problems at all. Only downside to the pureone is the color, they're like a textured gold and it looks kinda odd on my black '08 but for now a quality filter is worth it.
I wonder if you could spray paint it? Maybe i'll try that next time.

Mine had some grease or something on it and coupled with the oil on my hand from pulling the drain plug, that just wasn't happening.

I buy the walmart brand...its black with no visible writing on it.
i change it every other oil change, unless i'm not sure if i did it last time or not in which case i change it anyways.
