To drill or not to Drill buahahahahahaha

Okay...I still can't believe what I'm seeing here. There are 4 holes in the rear fender area...which punctured through the ECU.

The owner says, "Hmm. The holes are clean, but whenever I try to start my engine, the error code to CHECK ECU comes up..."

Uhhh...the holes have the array of a shotgun blast. There was clearly NO PLANNING as to where the drill was placed. It was a lobotomy.

OH MY GOD! The owner wonders if there's any way to bypass the ECU fault? Uhh...that's like asking to bypass your own heart! Or brain! Or whatever keeps you alive for every second!

There is NO WAY you can repair that ECU. You have to buy a new one. I'm checking it out now on Bikebandit.com

Part number 21175 - Control Unit Electron. $686.23 US. That price doesn't include the fee for a mechanic to reset the fault codes, which MOST likely will need to be done. The default charge for that task would be $100. Total price: $786.23 US.

If you check my attached images, you can see a schematic as to where the ECU is placed in the motorcycle.

Hooray for a double post!

Seriously, just click this link and read a couple of lines. Read the first paragraph. It will fully explain everything we've dealt with so far:

Lobotomy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ok. After researching the vantage point on the drill zone, based on Zx-6R schematics and diagrams, here's the area I believe the Lobotomy took place:

LOBOTOMY. That's the BRAIN of a motorcycle!!

Too funny. I like how it started in the UK, then moved to other parts of Europe, and then came to the US. I love the internets.

I heard that if you drill holes in your tires they will be lighter. Classic. Teens and tools.

So, if they hadn't drilled through the ECU, they would have wound up mounting the license plate so that it would get hit by the rear tire when the suspension compressed.

Either that, or they were planning to mount it facing straight down.
