Ticket Venting

So I got my first of the year. Way to kick it off. So I got court in Febuary on a careless driving and no proof of insurance. And I have to go to court, sucks because I can't just throw money at it. So I have to pray that when my Air Force recruiter calls me to let me know when I ship out to basic that the date isn't before my court date. And hopefully I don't get driving school.

Oh and the reasons
Careless driving because I was shimmying side to side on a backroad with no cars coming until the stop sign. It was cold out and wanted to see if my tires were warmed up. Not really saying I was 100% in the right here but it still sucks.

Proof of insurance, self explanitory. I figure I'll get some insurance and bring the proof to court so see if they'll lessen the punishments.

I went to court last year for not ha ing proof of insurance for my car. I had insurance, but the card in the car was expired. The guy before me tried what you are talking aout and got slapped with a huge fine. The judge asked if he thought he was stupid. The dates are on the card and he didn't appreciate him even trying to do what your suggesting. This one is going to cost you, as it should! Ride without insurance and pay the price man! Sorry, but your not going to get any sympathy from me for being so damn irresponsible!

Driving with no insurance? Bad call man. This might help though. What is the penalty for no insurance ticket for Alabama??

Say Hugger! I got you beat, I got mine on the 1st of the year, so I know how it feels about starting off the New Year. Unlike you though, I'm not venting. Not my first ticket, nor will it be my last if I continue to ride or drive so it's really not a big deal as most people make it to be. Plus I had my license, proof of insurance and registration so all I got was a speeding ticket. In the event that you get stopped again, which you probably will, having those three things wth you will make the experience much less stressful in the future.

Word of advise, if you're going to continue riding without the proper credentials, keep a low profile.

dude, I got that in my car for speeding, and it was my first ever ticket. I'm not pissed about the insurance thing. Yeah it sucks but whatever.

What does piss my off it how dickheaded the cop was being. My buddy riding behind me pulled up a little ahead of me and the cop gave him hell for no reason. Neal only wanted to stick around till porky-McFatass got done with me. Guy tried to play it off like we were punk-asses looking for trouble. I can go on into the details but I'm just too tired.

I respect leos and never expect to get let off the hook but but when they behave the way this guy did I begin to forget why I hold the 5.0 high in my book.



And I don't plan on telling the judge that I had insurance at the time. I just want to show the judge come court day that I have rectified the problem

Talk to your recruiter now and don't blind side him with this as this may delay your ship date. Also know that once you raise your right hand you are subject to UCMJ, the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Be glad this happen before you are in the military. If this was to have happen on Active Duty you'd be toast. Not only would you have to face the civilian judge, but your Commander can majorly impact your life too. The military will slamb your ass from what you've done, those are serious charges. Be honest, admit you F*d up and hope for the best.

You know what sucks even more? I got a speeding ticket a couple of days ago IN MY TRUCK! Now I have to waste my traffice school opportunity on this crap, and be careful on the bike for 13 months!

+1 on this comment. A hundred years ago when I enlisted in the Navy I got a ticket before I went in. The recruiter was way pissed and had to jump through a few flaming hoops on the day I went to the check in. Advance notice is always good...

I think many ppl have been quite harsh on this guy for doing something I bet we all have done...lean side to side to make sure tires are warm..I do it every time I ride, and I dont think its in any way wrong. I also dont think doing that even comes close to approaching a wreckless op charge. that cop was a grade A dick.

That's not what everyone is ragging on him for, it's riding without insurance that's the stupid thing.

Sure I've weaved from side to side, but never more than 3 feet apart and always when there's no other cars nearby. I accidently did it once with a CHP behind me. He didn't care.

I guess it depends how you do it and what mood the cop is in.
I've seen someone do the weaving so low that they were touching their knees on the ground each time, at 70mph on a busy highway. THAT I'd consider wreckless riding.

I just figured in the beginning that it'd be cheaper to risk getting the ticket than to pay a huge amont for insurance. I guess I'll find out come febuary if that was true. some states don't even require bikes to be insured (FL, WA...) The way I figure is if I do enough damage to a car in a wreck i somehow cause then I'll probably be in bad enough shape for that to be the least of my worries. It's my perception that cars need the insurance as to how much more damage they can do and how easily it is to make light of one's power when behind the wheel.

Bleh, I know all my rhetoric doesn't change the law, I'm just ranting again.

Liability insurance is cheap and the only thing it doesn't cover is your own bike. It does cover your medical if you get a booboo while causing your minimal damage to a vehicle :spank:

What if you get hit by an uninsured driver? Happened to me. If it wasn't for my insurance and uninsured coverage, I would've been screwed.

You may be able to beat the wreckless charge but you are screwed on the ins. charge. Like you said all ready, let the judge know you are not trying to pull any wool over his/her eyes with the ins. but you were not reckless driving. You were "warming" up your tires. Like someone else has said call your recruiter NOW! Good luck.

i thought you had to cross the lines to get cited for reckless/careless driving if you are 'weaving'? otherwise, how could the cop prove that you weren't driving in a straight line or whatever? if you don't cross the lines then he can't say well, i saw him cross the double yellow. if you can swing that, then the cop technically wasn't legally allowed to pull you over, and then you could beat the insurance thing because it was an unlawful stop and he had no business to check your insurance. that's my understanding of the law anyway. i would think that bikes are allowed to do that anyway to get the tires warmed up or wear off the slippery stuff if they are new. i had a loooong time rider drive my bike home from the stealership because i had never been out on the highway before and i didn't feel comfortable in traffic, and he followed me while i was in my truck and he was weaving the whole 10 miles or so to break in the new tires. bike had a whole 0.2 miles on her :thumbup: is it spring yet?

Are you telling me that in the US, police can't pull you over JUST to do an insurance check? Here in Denmark the can pull you if they just want to have a look at your bike, - they don't have to have a "That's illegal" reason ...

They must have Probable Cause, Free Country. BUT!!! Most L.E.O.'s will find a reason to tell you why they pulled you over.
